  2. i use ketchup but some more favour into it like chilli sauce and stuff it tastes just as nice i think.

  3. What a sin...tell the loco gringos to embrace a flavourful taco sauce.  It doesn't have to be hot as hades...but my god, why ruin something?

You can buy mild sauces that have a lot of flavour and actually compliment the food.

  4. I personally wouldn't.

honestly cheep tacos from a fast food restaurant, whats the difference?  its basically the same meat from a burger inside a tortilla instead of a bun.

hommade tacos or from a better restaurant, i would be a little awestruck if i saw someone doing this.  I use taco sauce or salsa, or a gut-burning hot sauce.

  5. No, and I dont think I would like it either, but a taco sauce is just cooked tomatos with vinegar and spices. Ketchup would be a good base substitute, just add some ground red pepper, chopped cooked jalapeno, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, chile powder, cilantro, and a little salt. Tell them to try this.

  6. That is very interesting...

I've never done it, but if that's what they like, I say it's fine for them to do it

  7. I remember it being used by some kids back in the 70's.  This was before salsa became more popular than ketchup.  It also was in an area where there were many folks of Hispanic descent, so tacos were not that unusual, but the folks who were eating tacos were not Hispanic.  My guess is that your wife came from that milieu, and now she associated the sweet-tart taste of ketchup w/ tacos.  Of course, you and I would not like the combo because we are expecting the not very sweet, slightly acidic taste of salsa with hotness variations based on our own history and preferences.

  8. No, but one of my co-workers puts mayonnaise on his!  OK, we have to give him a break.  When I moved to Maui in the early 70's, no one had ever heard of a taco (tako is octopus), and an enchilada or burrito was totally unheard of!  Now we have a large Mexican population and things are totally different.

  9. I have NEVER heard of that! The first thing I thought was EEWWWW when I read it. I personally need either salsa or taco sauce on my tacos.

  10. Never heard of anyone using ketchup, but I have heard of some people using it for tamales. I had a friend that stayed with my family for a couple of years and he would put ketchup to make them taste better for him ( wasn't use to all the mexican food all the time I guess). He got me to try it and even though it wasn't the best paring sence pb&j it wasn't that bad. So to each is own I say.
