Question:

Have you ever heard of man "groom" showers?

I was reading an article the other day that stated this is the new thing to do. Seriously, like guys want to sit around and unwrap gifts with their buddies?

Is this a joke? Has anyone actually heard of someone doing this or is this a new trend that retailers are trying to start up?

  1. ha that is funny.I couldnt imagine my fiance doing that.

  2. Yeah...sounds the same as a Hallmark Holiday to me.

  3. Never heard of this one.  Fiance might like it if it were a Pampered Chef party!  LOL  He is a gourmet cook and loves all the gadgets for the kitchen.  Good thing is I know he wouldn't do one...He would think it was silly if someone actually threw him one.

  4. My brother's first MiL threw him a surprise Man-Power Shower. They gave him all sorts of power tools and "man stuff" like hardware store gift cards, car wash passes, beer, etc. They ate pizza and junk food and had drinks and played game that were made up by his MiL (nail driving in 2X4s, car identification, etc). He had a great time but told us it was the WEIRDEST thing he'd ever done!

He's the only one I've ever heard of having a shower thrown for him. And it was weird lol.

  5. I don't see a problem with it. Why should only girls be interested in having a party with gifts and good company? They probably make it as manly as possible, serve beer in big glasses, give tools as gifts and watch sports or something.

Personally, we're having a joint shower because why should only me, as the bride, get gifts and attention? I never understood these separate parties, including the bachelor/bachelorette thing. We're going in to this marriage together, so we're going to celebrate together. THAT makes sense to me more than the silly "go out and get drunk wearing a tacky veil" or "Let's play toilet paper bride" traditions.

EDIT: I should also mention that our "shower" is more of a get together with our friends and  family before the wedding to go over details and such. No stupid games, gender neutral, and the guys are excited about it because we're having Guinness. For those of you who think that's "g*y," grow up.

  6. that sounds like a g*y thing, maybe

  7. Just when I thought that "Jack and Jill" showers were the dumbest idea I had ever heard, someone managed to come up with something even worse.

  8. I have heard it's getting to be a fun new tradition, but it's not all lame and stuffy, with stupid games and finger sandwiches, like a woman's bridal shower.  THe men get together, grill up some BBQ, drink some beers, maybe play some Madden Football or something, and then they give the guy "dude gifts," like an electronic dartboard or some golf equipment or whatever.  I doubt they even wrap them- probably they just leave them in the shopping bag, receipt and all.  Personally, I'd rather go to one of those "showers" than the lame-o ones I am always subjected to as a woman.  I mean, really, just because I lack a Y chromosome I'm supposed to swoon over stupid kitchen appliances?  I'd rather play Madden and eat brats.

  9. I hear they're popular in San Francisco

    P.S. LOL Nice Guy

  10. Sounds like a marketing scam to me.

  11. Never heard of this...we always just go get tanked at the bars...

If one of my friends had a "groom" shower I would not be attending though.

  12. only thing I've heard of guys unwrapping is strippers :-)

  13. Hey, I'm 53 years old, and if one of my friends or a family member (or, God forbid, some guy who wanted to marry my daughter) invited me to one, I would go just so I could kick their a$$ around a little.

Then we'd go to Hooters or someplace manly.

  14. maybe it's for homosexual (male) couples?
