  1. I'm Filipino. yes in Philippines we wear the wedding ring in the right hand and that's the tradition in Philippines. all my sisters they wear the wedding in right hand. but me i put my wedding ring in the left hand because we get married in Singapore and is European.

  2. yup! I'm Filipino and that is our tradition. My parents use to wear their wedding rings on their right hands (shown in their wedding photos) but once they came here in America, they switched it.

  3. It is just a cultural/traditional difference, thats all.

    Alot of europeans wear the rings on the right hand.  In some marriages, rings aren't even exchanged so putting them on the right hand wouldn't make it a sham.

  4. It's also a good idea for left-handed engineers: you'd have to have a gold ring rubbing against stainless steel all the time.

  5. My friend was born in Greece.  When she and her husband got married, they put their rings on their right fingers b/c that is how it is done in her home country.  She wears it on her right finger even though she lives in the states.

  6. Well, that is where we wear our wedding rings, on the right hand. Our background is Eastern European, so we kept with this old tradition.

    This is why the right hand -

    "A traditional reason to wear the wedding ring on the right hand stems from Roman custom. The Latin word for left is "sinister", which in addition to this sense also has the same senses as the English word. The Latin word for right is "dexter", a word that evolved into "dexterity". Hence, the left hand had a negative connotation and the right a good one." (Wikipedia)

  7. In the Netherlands the wedding rings are worn on the ring finger of the right hand, lots of people legally married there.

    A sham marriage is a state of mind, not a state of law.

  8. I believe in some countries the tradition is to wear your wedding ring on your right hand. In the US, it's traditional to wear it on your left hand. But there is no rule - anyone can wear their ring wherever they please, or not wear one at all. I doubt very much that his marriage is a sham.

  9. i have heard of widows switching their ring to the right hand.  never heard of judge telling to wear on the right.

  10. I've heard of it, in many cultures;

    In Judaism, the ring is worn on the right forefinger;

    Why would you even think about his marriage being a sham?

  11. yep, in several European countries it is traditional for the wedding ring to be worn on the right hand (Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Denmark...)

    as to the judge ordering them to wear them on the right hand...different country, different laws.  Singapore and the Phillippines are notorious for micromanaging their citizens' lives.

  12. Yep. Many of the Eastern Rite/ Orthodox churches do this.

  13. I think either hand is acceptable.  In the US, people assume that it should be worn on the left hand as the heart is in the left side of the body and the ring is "closer to the heart" if worn on the left hand.  Widows typically wear their wedding ring on the right hand after their spouse passes.  This does not mean the marriage is a sham.  Congratulations to your brother.

  14. I've seen widows do that, but the left hand is traditional for the weddings.

    Maybe it's different in the Philipines.  Your brother should do whatever seems right to him.
