Have you invested, or helped anyone invest, $100,000.00 or more?

If so, where and how was the money invested? Do you feel a wise course of action was taken regarding its investment?

***I'm looking for people who have direct or personal experience that pertains to this question - please don't bother to answer otherwise, thanks!***

  1. Yes, frequently in the course of a days work.

Investing is one part market research, two parts psychology, and three parts alchemy (using experience and insight to create a relationship and a portfolio).

Investing wisely depends as much on who you are and what the money is to be used for as it does on portfolio modeling, tools, trends and the like.

I always start by asking questions:  who are you; what are your goals; what do you know about stocks, bonds, CD's, mutual fund, etc.? Where did this money come from?  What do you plan to use it for?

My investing style is conservative and risk/personality balanced.  Nine times out of ten my clients have a large "bucket" of cash that they wish to use to generate income while protecting the principle from inflation.  Growth is a secondary factor.

I believe I am good at my job, so, yes, I invest wisely.

    Cheers.

  2. I have advised people to invest million dolllars. I told them to put 50 percent of their investment in real estate and another 25 percent in long term shares. 25 percent was distributed among forex and commodity futures and the person has earned more than double.

  3. I help people participate in the foreign exchange market by managing their trading accounts for them.

Basically, currency pairs are bought and sold for your account based on a trading system that we have developed over the years. Our strategy is to open a long, or short position when we have confirmation that a trend is in place, and stay with the move until it is exhausted, then take profits when the trend has reversed.

Our objective is to return profits over time and keep losses small; We focus almost exclusively on risk management on all our trades.

  4. Yes. Accidently. I was buying a CFD in British Energy. The order was for £200/point (a spreadbetting term). They were about 700p a share. I got to about 197000 shares ( about £1.2m) with 20 mins to go to the close, when I had a horrible feeling the clients order was for 20000 shares (about £140000) rather than for 200,000

I rapidly reversed the order by buying back 177,000 shares. Remember that rumours were abound about a possible bid from EDF Energy! I made about £1250 profit less £1000 commission for the CFD provider. I gave the £250 to the client making nothing myself, but pleased that I had got out of it.

    Does this count?

Last week I invested £50000 ($100000) for a client into a long oil ETF, against my judgement and advice. It was about $142 (now $128). Still who knows he may be right.

  5. Yes, I have managed many millions of dollars professionally for individuals, and businesses over many years.

Everyone has different goals, risk tolerances, and beliefs about money.

Historically speaking, I have found that when listening to sound advice, people tend to better than over doing it them self. There are a few exceptions, some people are good money managers - in the short run. Long term is where the work comes in.

  6. I invested more than that in my house.
