When I was younger I liked the name Abbi but I didn't like the name Abbigail. So I changed it to Abbigwen and have been using it in my writing ever since.

So I was just curious if anyone has done anything similar, like make up a totally new name.

  1. Please don't.  I work with underprivileged children where it is a common thing for the child to have a "unique" name, either made up or spelled differently.  The child is constantly having his name misspelled, mispronounced, etc... And this sort of thing might be funny to an adult, but it is a self esteem thing for a child.

  2. Yes I had one in mind. First & Middle name. I told a friend about it, she then told one of her friends that I personally didn't know who was also pregnant at the time. She had her child first so she end up naming the child the name I thought of. She used the First & Middle name. It upset me for a while, eventually I got over it. My Husband end up naming our daughter instead and it is much better than what I thought of in the first place.
