i'm making a jacket with my kenmore sewing machine.

i just put on the zipper & it came out wierd.

i was supposed to put the zipper in the middle of the seam.

& not all of the zipper was in the middle & i dont feel like using my seam ripper to take out the stitches because i got most of the zipper in the middle of the seam. what should i do?

thanks:)

  1. Take out just the stitches in that section, plus a couple extra. Pop the zipper the rest of the way in, and sew  just that section. If you work carefully, it won't even show. Make sure your new stitching overlaps the old stitching a little bit.

  2. It's not worth doing if you don't make it right. Chalk it up to a learning lesson and take it out then baste it in by hand so the zipper won't move while you are sewing. Sew one side in then do up the zipper and sew in the other side. That way it will line up properly.

Here is a link to help.

  3. I've sewn many jackets with zippers. Here's a trick to do it the easy way. Sew the seam all the way shut  before putting in the zipper but use the largest stitch you have. Pin the zipper in place on the inside and stitch it in on the outside with regular size stitches. When done take the large stitches of the seam out and voila you should not even see the zipper. Even if part of the zipper turns out crooked you won't see it from the outside because the seam edges are close together. Hope this helps.

  4. Yes, I made several Frostline kit down jackets and vests back in the 80's.

YES I made a similar mistake... and took out the seam ripper and corrected my error.
