Have you ever met a genuine clairvoyant?How do you know they were genuine?

I haven't met a genuine clairvoyant but my friend recently met a lady who scared her quite a bit, she was at a county show and this gypsy woman kept wanting to speak to her but she didn't want to, when she eventually let her talk to her she was really sceptical but this woman told her she had her son with her (my friend lost a child 5 years ago). She knew his name and wanted my friend to know he was OK and he was with his grandmother (my friends husbands mother passed away around the same time as her son). She also said she could see lots of tests happening in a hospital and her son wanted her to know everything was going to work out great and that she could see twins. My friend recently had IVF treatment and is now pregnant with twins. How weird is that? The woman didn't want anything from her, wished her well and walked away. I am quite scepital but now I do believe that some people have a gift, but they are extremely rare!

They are all a bunch of charlatans that tell you ambiguous stories that anybody can fit into there lives.

I went to see a psychic in January of this year.  She told me several things and I made it a point not to say anything about what she said.  I did not let her get me to say anything.  She was right about 95% of what she told me.  However it took until August to find it out.  Everything she talked about would occur by then.  Almost all of them did.  As I look back now, I would say she had some kind of gift to be able to tell me some of the things she did.

Yes I did. Back in 1995 in Chelsea. I was in litigation with a major plc for about a year. It was complicated. Her prediction: "There shall be 2 meetings, and, the matter will be resolved." Precisely. The plc settled for £112,000.00./

Clairvoyance is always justified after the fact (and often quite generously). "Close" hits are often used as evidence for this ability while the distinctly incorrect guesses are ignored or justified away.

Confirmation bias, selective thinking, and even a misunderstanding of basic probability all conspire to create this effect.

Further, how can some claim to have a "gift" concerning clairvoyance when many magicians can recreate this apparent ability without claiming such gifts?

It's very easy to tell a geniune psychic or clairvoyant from someone whose only blowing smoke up your bum. It's all in the small details they give you. A geniune will give you small details you can't just generalize and give to anybody (I foresee you getting LOTS of money! This will be such a great year for you! Love is coming into your life!). It's all in the details. And a clairvoyant is a seer, they're going to give you lots of visuals (such as the other reply about seeing the deceased child).  

Be wary of people of who won't tell you details UNTIL you give them money. Be wary of yes or no answers, or people who want to talk about the weather for an unusually long time. And yeah, the best ones are the ones you have to know somebody to get to them. The geniune ones....ARE the ones who stop you on the street because they HAVE to tell you something (it's not a matter of choice, they won't be allowed to rest until they've given out the message).
