  1. No, I would never take party to the thought of it. We should take full advantage though, if someonr was mentally advanced than myself I could learn from that and they were

underdeveloped than myself I could teach.

  2. Yes, of course, and I'm sure many people have (esp. people my age, in high school). This answer, of course, absolutely does not apply to people I've met who are technically mentally challenged.

What I'm talking about is that stupid ditz in your English class who holds up a poster that says "Poetrey" and launches into a nonsensical discussion of a simple poem. You laugh. Hopefully not out loud, ...but that doesn't change that you stop holding that person to as high a value. She means less than you because she processes thoughts the same way an 8 year old does.

And the weirdo nerd who spends his weekends reading ahead in your class' chemistry book, and who graduates two years early from high school. You stare at them, amused, as they anxiously wave their hand in the air to be called on by the teacher. This person is a lesser person than you because they lack the common sense and common desires that seem to make us all human. Social interaction? Time for relaxing? No?

On second thought, the word "mistreated" could be interpretted so many ways that I'm sure no one will agree on an answer.

The way I see it, I try and be a good person who doesn't outright pick on nerds and dimwits. But my answer to the question is still "Yes," because I really can't make myself value these people nearly as much as they maybe deserve.

  3. I've taunted such person's but not because of their special condition but because they deserve to be treated just like everybody else.

    Back of the line r****d!

Oh c**p, I didn't know you were really handicapped.

  4. No.  I worked as an Autism Tutor for 5 years, and during that time I did see a lot of mistreatment of people with cognitive disabilities and behavior issues.  I have seen parents, teachers, aides, and fellow students mistreat their classmates.

It was a difficult job, and it was hard to see those kids being treated that way.  I always spoke up when I saw a violation of a child's rights, or if they were being mistreated in any way shape of form.

People are afraid of what they don't understand, and people take little time to understand the things that are different from themselves.
