  1. Yes! I have moved 9 times, and 7 of those moves were to less than desirable places. The best cure, and I think you might already be a fan "desirable poet", is writing and letting your emotions out to play. I found that focusing on the not-so-nice aspects of the place I moved to really helped me reconnect over and over with my hometown, thus strengthening the bond and opinion that "Hey, I really dislike this place." So my suggestion? Bathe in your feelings as much as possible. Really resist in finding anything positive about your new surroundings, so you'll appreciate Vegas more when you inevitably move back there out of depression and loneliness.

  2. I live in rural Illinois, it's an agriculture state, and boy is it an agriculture state. Some of the people are educated, but mainly in nursing and diesel mechanic engineering (and the like). I have nothing in common with any of the people in this area. The closest large city, Chicago, is further than I want to drive. And while I have applied to hundreds, if not thousands, of jobs in my field, I cannot seem to land the job--Ironic, because I graduated in the top 10 percent of my class. Right now, I'm trying to get a job at a fast-food restaurant, so I can pay my growing bills.

There are cornfields in every direction. I'm allergic to half of my botanical habit. The summer weather causes my sinuses to flare, and the winter weather causes everything from colds to Pnuemonia.

The only thought that keeps me going is the hope that some corporate fellow in New York City, New York will see my resume and say, "Disquette Lezard is our man. Let's move him to a bread box apartment filled with cockroaches and rats right above a street stirring with homeless people and transvestite hookers, so he can start his new job at Dunder-Mifflin Enterprise Paper Company."

  3. Yes. I moved from Navy bases on the shore near the beach to the middle of nowhere TN. It was culture shock for me. I found that writing helped me a lot. Having someone to talk to also helped. I emailed family and friends. I also joined some online support groups.

It got so bad that I started planning yearly trips away. It was the only way I could cope. I would plan to go anywhere but there. The idea that I was going to leave and could leave eventually gave me hope.

Chin up. You can move eventually. I love the city much better too! The source link is the site I use for support.
