Get an extra job (or two) it is best to rely on yourself if you can.

Sure... all of the above.

When I was alone, I dealt with it alone - went hungry, had the heat or phone cut off a couple times, etc.

As a single Mom, I have never allowed it to get that far. I tend to still try to take care of it myself - payday loans or post-dated cheques where possible, partial payments on the bills, etc. But I have, and will, ask family for help (and make them first not last priority to repay) when necessary.

Relationships should not be affected by money... I dont choose who to be with by what I can get from them, and always ensure any loan is necessary and fully repaid, rapidly. People know a loan to me is appreciated and reliable, so I have never lost friends or distanced family over my financial needs at any time.
