If you have pictures of your family in the 1920s 1940s, you know, times like that....they never smile.never. My grandmother told me Black people never smiled because of the racial injustice on top of hard times in the South, that makes sense!

And on my father's side, they had immigrated from Barbados, and were facing adjustments and hard times as well.

So,what about your family, does the same apply? just wondering :)

  1. If you're talking about photos with people posing, smiling for pictures wasn't customary back then, no matter what race they were. People just looked normal in their photos, they didn't attempt to appear happy the way we do now.

It's true that black people were very hard-done-by back then, but I don't believe it has anything to do with their photos.

  2. actually i've never noticed that til you mentioned it. kinda funny that people didn't smile

  3. You've got a point.  Mine didn't smile either.  The only ones that probably smiled in those days were the ones in showbiz.  In order to keep their "jobs", they had to smile.
