...it turns out to be the same one you saw before ??

I've often wondered why this happens. I know most will say it's a coincidence...but how many times does a coincidence have to happen before you finally decide it's MORE than a coincidence?

  1. yeah deenie.... that happens to me to... its like they only made 1 episode an they keep running it over an over again... lol

anyways tv is a stupid waste of time... they can keep striking forever for all i care... lol

  2. It's a well-known phenomenon - we all notice coincidences (when they happen), but don't notice non-coincidences.

    .

  3. cause the tv stations are tight arses and dont wanna buy new episodes

  4. Yes I have had that happened to me. I blame the endless reruns on network (and cable) TV programming.

I have listed a book for you below that is titled "Beyond Coincidence" it talks about the mathematics behind phenomena such as this so it will be a more complete answer to your question of how many times does it have to happen than I could give you on this forum.

Isn't a shame that people who claim to support science believe saying everything is confirmation bias without actually researching/investigating (doing science) is somehow science?

    Psi

  5. Perhaps it's because of the writers' strike, no?

  6. too bad for my addiction lol

  7. I have noticed the same thing Denie.  I think there are a few reasons why it seems this way.  The first is our old friend confirmation bias.  You may have seen the show more times than you remember.  Perhaps you have seen five episodes but think you only saw one.  When a repeat episode comes on you say, "I've only seen this show once and this was the episode I saw!" when in fact you have seen several but only remember one because that memory has been recalled due to seeing the same episode.

I did this recently with "Arrested Development".  I had seen one or two before and liked it, so I decided to record it on DVR since it's on every day.  Well sure enough, having watched about a dozen so far I have actually seen a few more than I thought I had.

The second possible explanation is that perhaps certain syndicated TV shows are played more often that others.  This would increase the likelihood of seeing the same episode twice.

  8. Yeah, ive had that happen with a few shows that i only watched one or two episodes of.

Still, i am not convinced its anything other than coincidence.

  9. It just shows that the circumstances want you to watch the whole series without skipping an episode. If the "symptoms" persist, then watch the whole show!!! Maybe the show is really that good and interesting anyway.

I believe in a supreme being. I call that (Him for me) >> God. And God moves in mysterious ways!

    Peace!

  10. so it's not just me.

Yeah, that drives me crazy. Especially when all my normal shows are reruns or some special is on and I want to watch something new......... I hate it.
