  1. I think some do act a little differently. I think the upper middle class work really hard - at work, school, etc. and are really pushing to be a part of the upper class. I think some think they are already there when they're not, and others are living by the "fake it til you make it" philosophy so they come off different than those who are securely in the Middle Class range.

I don't think it's neccessarily bad, but yes, I can see why you think they act differently.

  2. I'm not sure if they act different, or just ahve differnent lifestyles.  Yeah, their economic situations are different. Just like lower middle class people differ from middle class people.  Unfortunately many people (of all economic backgrounds) are living beyond their means.

  3. These differences can be understood in terms of cultural capital and habitus.

Cultural capital is the knowledge, experience and or connections one has had through the course of their life that enables them to succeed more so than someone from a less experienced background.

Habitus is also important to the concept of cultural capital, as much of cultural capital can be derived from an individual’s habitus. It is often defined as being dispositions that are inculcated in the family but manifest themselves in different ways in each individual. (Harker, 1990:10; Webb, 2002:37; Gorder, 1980:226). It is formed not only by the habitus of the family (Harker et al, 1990:11) but also by the objective chances of the class to which the individual belongs (King, 2005:222), in their daily interactions (Gorder, 1980:226) and it changes as the individual’s position within a field changes (Harker, 1990:11).

    [edit]

In 'The Forms of Capital' (1986), Bourdieu distinguishes between three types of capital:

        * Economic capital: command over economic resources (cash, assets).

        * Social capital: resources based on group membership, relationships, networks of influence and support. Bourdieu defines social capital as "the aggregate of the actual or potential resources which are linked to possession of a durable network of more or less institutionalized relationships of mutual acquaintance and recognition."

        * Cultural capital: forms of knowledge, skills, education, and advantages that a person has, which give them a higher status in society. Parents provide their children with cultural capital by transmitting the attitudes and knowledge needed to succeed in the current educational system.

We all have different experiences and expectations.  These differences influence/dictate the ways in which we act.

  4. yeah because they think since they are almost upper class that they can act like yuppy snobs like most of the others do.

  5. I have noticed a tendancy in the entire middle class- pretend you are upper class.

Can you say credit card debt?

No matter how great they think they are, the proletariate are where it's at! They can't do anything without us.

  6. I'll elaborate a bit on a George Carlin quote I recently caught that pretty much hit the nail on the head. It goes a little bit like this...

The rich have most of the money and pay the least amount of taxes with very little effort put forth compared to the middle class who work their *** off and pay most of the taxes.

The poor are here to scare the c**p out of the middle class.

And I'll add to this that anything other than this in describing society's socioeconomic strata is mere theater to keep everyone guessing.

  7. Can't say that I have.

  8. yes because (not all) but a lot of them a stuck up s****. and think there sh!.t don't stink cause they got money...

like having money makes someone better then someone else how stupid is that
