  1. I don't own one but my friend has one with over 350,000km on it and its the original motor and transmission.  He always uses synthetic motor oil and it still runs great. He only changed his alternator last year.  Aside from normal wear and tear items needing replacement, its a durable little car that will run a long time as long as you change your oil.  My other friends 05 Ford Focus needed a new transmission after only 60,000, and the motor died after only 140,000km. What ever you choose, do not get anything built by Ford!

  2. It is a pretty good car. It's not the greatest car ever, but it's one of the best for the money. Hyundais are decent cars. They are better on gas than other Hyundias, so it sounds good. You should be able to get over 200,000 miles out of it if you take care of it. I would go for it!

  3. Yes, matter if fact I still own my 01' Elantra 5-door GT and it has 135,000+ miles on it. 115,000 after a pretty bad accident with a pick up truck. That's why I so impressed with it. I still get 33-34 mpg highway at 65 mph. 35 if I stay in the 50's. I think it would make a decent used car http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/bestbet/a...

But just like any used car try to find out as much as you can about it's history it see if it's owner/s took care of it and make sure all recalls were addressed. Never go by a car reputation alone. Also see if a mechanic can look at it as well. Even run a Car fax. Get as much info on a car before you buy.

You will run into people who look down at Hyundai's but they are truly near Japanese quality. Not just my opinion http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2004...
