Or would you consider hitching a lift?

I'm just wondering whether to hitch a lift tomorrow rather than drive to that wild place where Kat and Joanne C live

  1. Yes often and yes I would do it again.  At times I have gone out of my way to take them to their destination when it turned out to be a hospital etc.  I don't suggest everyone do it.  I am former armed Forces Infantry and a Combat instructor so my situation is bit different.

  2. don't drive but I think I wouldn't really want to risk it cos there could be lots of weirdos out there.

    mine?

  3. I did once, long ago. TO Save money? Never again. I can say I did and survived yeah!

  4. I have done so many times, but in more innocent days, would not try it today though.

  5. No I never have and don't intend to start now, a wild place ha ha

  6. Nope I have never picked one of those up.  Although I have seen a few on my travels.

  7. I have picked up one or two high school students within the same city.  One of them was hitchhiking in a blizzard and I felt sorry for him.  Furthermore, he looked like he lived somewhere in the neighbourhood.  I doubt whether I would pick one up on the road or highway outside of town, however, unless the hitchhiker(s) was in distress or stalled in a blizzard, in the cold or in some other type of extreme weather conditions.  I know my parents used to pick up hitchhikeers sometimes, and they felt it was safe.  They never experienced consequences such as violence or criminal behaviour from them.  My uncle, who used to drive a truck, and picked up hitchikers from time to time, was clobbered on the head by one.

No, I would not consider hitching a lift unless the car broke down and the weather was too cold to walk or the place whre I was stranded was too remote to find another way to a destination.  I think that hitchhiking is way too risky nowdays.

  8. yeah i used to hitch lifts, in Portugal though never in this doss hole country!!

  9. I have and I would, although I tend to avoid ones with a dog on a piece of string, hate dog hairs in my car. The funniest time was when i picked up two elderly ladies and drove them into town. They ignored me almost completely, and chatted to one another constantly, and only ever stopped long enough to tell me where they wanted to get out.LOL

  10. No, I haven't.  No, I wouldn't unless I knew the person.  Especially being a woman I would never hitch a ride with a stranger.  I'd rather walk than take the chance of being picked up by a serial killer, rapist or psychopath.

  11. No & don't plan to

  12. I don't know... the fact that I don't drive narrows it down a little... Although in today's world, it just isn't worth risking it!

    =]

  13. No Way !!! Especially if you are a female.

  14. i picked up 3 lads in the middle of nowhere and took them back to their barracks many years ago when their taxi broke down it was a bit of a risk actually but surprise surprise i'm still here ! its grim that far south, stay at home lol x

  15. No but now I don't think it's safe for the hitchhiker to ride  a Greyhound bus in Canada at least. Good Grief!

  16. No I never would and yes I did when I was 18 with my female friend in Italy while on Interrail.

We both thought we were going to be attacked at one point and it was the scariest thing that has ever happened to me.

I have already started to lecture my poor lil 8 year old daughter about the dangers of strangers and cars.  Teens and young people are very trusting and think they're indestructable.

Don't hitch - even if your'e not young and nubile any more lol:)

  17. Picked up a real wild card a few months ago!! He was trouble and someone you couldn't trust!! I even turned off my route and did something like 7 miles out of my way to avoid letting him see where i lived!!

It's always a risky one for hitcher and driver!! just remember there are a lot of weirdo's out there okay!!!!

  18. Yes, I often pick up hitchhikers, providing they look OK and there's room in the car chances are I will, I'll even take them to where they want to go if it's close enough. But I used to hitch a lot myself. If I don't get "we're having a breather" this'll be the first answer I've managed tonight.

    edit: Hoorah!

  19. I'd be freaked out if I had anything to do with hitchhiking because I lost a cousin who was hitchhiking: she was picked up, raped, and murdered. I didn't know her extremely well, but you can understand that I am still upset about what happened. As much as I hate driving because it's bad for the environment, I wouldn't risk my life hitchhiking. You just never know. Man, I wish that people weren't weirdos and that we could all live without killing each other.

  20. Now look here. Me and the Kat monster. will take great offence at that question. Hampshire is actually quite sophisticated. Just don`t take a wrong turn and get lost in Essex. Full of chavs and people who use initials for their user name and shop in Lidl.

How condescending a question. I may have to change the habits of a lifetime and report this. I`m frankly appalled. :)
