  1. in a video game yes but in real life no

  2. In a dream of mine.

  3. YEP!

June 4th, 1974.  For the Babe Ruth/Pony Colt league "Royals" of the Santa Clara County Little League.  (We only played 7 innings a game of course); but yeah!  I DID.  Against the "Braves" of the East Side San Jose division..  As far as I know; to this day; I was the ONLY 14 year old that had mastered a half decent knuckler that could be at least stopped by the catcher.  (Or even wanted to for that matter at that age)...

I remember ALMOST having to come out of the game in the 6th inning; NOT because I was blowin' it, (I was "On" man!!), but I only had ONE catcher that was able to deal with that crazy pitch without letting it get to the backstop, allowing the "Walks" I had put on to advance or even score a couple times.. His name was Garth.  A big husky kid, the manager's son acutally,,and he used to talk smack to the ump all the time; and he ALMOST got his fat mouth thrown out of the game in the 6th; but somehow they talked the ump out of it and they gave him warning and we went on to win 1 to 0.  I served up those kids at least 75% Knuckle balls that danced all over that windy little field..

To this day I STILL proudly show off that '74 trophy that we won that year...

PS: I had read that book "Ballfour" by Jim Boutin, the pro pitcher that used the Knuckler to extend his career way past his glory days with the Yanks of the early sixtys,, It made a real impression on me.. and the wild thing is; is that I really just kind of taught myself with a few pointers off this poster, But the 2 minute lesson I got from Gaylord Perry just off the player's parking lot at Candlestick Park pretty much did the trick,,

Absolutley true tale.  Hope you enjoyed reading about it as much as I did living' it as a kid that still wonders what the h**l happened to my plans to play in "The Show"????
