Question:

Have you ever punished your child by sending them to school with no lunch or money because they were bad?

My friend's mom did this in grade school. He REALLY was bad. Like putting the dog in the dryer, lighting the house on fire, and hitting the family car with a sledgehammer bad.

But I mean, the kid still needs to eat. Now that he grew up, he's a miserable SOB and I don't blame him.

Have you ever done this and/or do you feel this is right?

  1. well id be pissed if someone did that to my car

  2. I would never send my kid to school without lunch or lunch money.I would have on the other hand given him some tough love to wake his behind up.Kids need love and discipline both these things can be done at the same time...Believe it or not!

  3. Urrrm, the schools are LEGALLY required to give every child a lunch!

  4. No way. I would never punish my child by taking food away. That is child abuse. I wonder what else the parents did to him? Maybe that is why he was so " bad"

  5. omg! that is NEVER okay

your friends mom is very cruel

on the other hand he needs therapy like the earth needs light

  6. Well it's not like they would starve to death, and I'm sure they would just eat some other kid's food anyway. It sounds like he was a miserable SOB when he was a child anyway, not because his mom sent him to school without food.

  7. You should never punish your by not feeding them, no matter what they have done.

  8. umm no i would have called my grandma and told on my parents... we never had money for me to pack lunch like all the other kids... but i did have lunch money and they would never have sent me to school with out it... i think thats some sort of child abuse.

  9. This parent should have been reported for child negelect.

  10. Sending him without money for snacks is one thing, but without lunch? The kid needed something much different from a day without food for that kind of c**p. Institutionalizing him sounds like it could have been a plan.

  11. Well he was an SOB before his parents deprived him of food, right?  So the punishment isn't what created him, his parents created the monster by not disciplining him correctly.

  12. that's child abuse..as a parent, you are supposed to provide your child with a safe place to live, clothes on their back, and food to eat. I was a bad kid too and my parents never starved me cuz i was bad. I only believe in spanking if its the last resort. You can teach ur kid to behave by depriving them of the extra stuff...like t.v., computer time, playing with their friends, buying the games/toys..stuff like that but never the things necessary for their survival.

  13. that is so wrong

every kid needs to eat unless they don't WANT to

at least give a decent punishment like just no tv and video for like 1-3 months

  14. That's no way to handle a sick child who is obviously in need of a doctor. The problem usually starts with the parents, parenting wrong and he does this stuff for attention. More parents should watch "SuperNanny" on ABC wednesday nights at 9pm.  She is real good with problem childen.  Maybe they should call her.

  15. She should not have a kid, child support should have been called.

  16. that's awful, who would starve there kid?

  17. I have never had to "Punish" my children because I have always disciplined them (they ARE different).  Two of my kids went to school in their pjs because they weren't ready when the bus stopped at our house but that wasn't punishment, they knew it would happen if they weren't ready.

As far as your friend goes...he needs more than "punishment" he needs psychological counseling because there  is something wrong in his head.

  18. No I never sent them to school without a lunch.  I did whip their butts though.  contrary to popular belief today it worked too.

  19. My mom did punish me like that but it was only because I was in the free lunch program so I still ate.  She always packed lunch for because I didn't really like the cafeteria food and the days that I lashed out at her she didn't pack my lunch but she would never let me starve and she only did this in fifth grade.  Later she would just confiscate my favorite shirts.  I think it is wrong to punish a child like that but my mom did no wrong because I still ate but if my lunch wasn't free she would give me money because I would eat the food if I was hungry.  If there was no lunch or she wouldn't afford it well she wouldn't do that. She would just not pack me cookies or any sweets that day.

  20. Sounds like the kid needed therapy, not starvation.

Normal children do not set the house on fire or torture the family pet.  Something was obviously going on with this child to make him act out in such a fashion, and sending him to school without anything to eat most likely made the problem worse, not better.  I am surprised nobody reported them for child neglect.

  21. Sounds like your friend's mom was at the end of her rope or a really bad parent to begin with. If she had done that because of what he was doing she should have resorted to counseling before starving her child. Again I don't agree with her actions, but you haven't given much information to the specific circumstances. If he is a miserable s.o.b. because all his mom did was keep him from having lunch then there is more wrong in that family than a skipped lunch as punishment.

  22. That sounds like child abuse and possible child  neglect. Whatever a child does shouldn't result in them not eating or being deprived over a so called punishment! Things like that open doorways to Children Services and a can of worms that could have never been open. Kids don't forget. I will pray for that kid and it always get better for the young and older.

  23. No I do not feel that that is right at all.

As a teacher, I know kids who don't eat breakfast or lunch have a harder time concentrating and quite often have a weaker performance at school and cause trouble as a result.

It sounds to me like your friend needed help and his mother made the situation worse.
