Have you ever purposely tried to instill some type of hatred into your kids?

Like, for example, I've always hated cats. I know it's not logical for some people, but my mother hated cats, and I've always hated them. I am a grown man with kids, and if a cat enters our yard I throw rocks at it. To be honest, I want my kids to do the same when they're older. I want them to treat cats as if they're inanimate objects that only stupid people keep as pets.

I know it's illogical and hate is involved, yet I get a keen sense of pride getting my kids to do the same thing.

Do you have similar stories?

I try and get my kids to hate fast food places.  I tell them they don't sell real food there.

That's cruel.  All you're doing is teaching your kids it's okay to harm living creatures if they don't like them.  If you hate cats, that's your choice but do you really want your kids to learn violence at your hands?

Um....no, that's cruel.  Let your kids think for themselves, they are not cruel clones of yourself!  You should be ashamed for being on such a power trip with your children.  

(I agree with you about cats by the way - I just think that kids don't need to hate anything nor have their father tell them to).

I wouldn't instill hatred for anyone into my kids.  I do want them to hate things that are evil because they are evil.

mgnavado: So should people who hunt deer or ducks seek psychiatric help for that too?  So they don't like cats....get over it.

You should seek psychiatric help.  A desire to harm animals is a symptom of a variety of mental illnesses.

Is this a metaphor for what you'd like to do to some kind of minority group but know that you'd get arrested or beat up if you did? No, I don't instill hate. Hate is reserved in my mind for anyone that hurts my children and has no remorse for it.

I don't think MGN was referring to hunting, just hurting animals for the sake of hurting them (because you have a mental issue)
