  1. As much as I love our horses, and always have, they are still horses and not people...there is a big difference and if I ever had to make a choice between any animal and a member of my family, I would always choose my family, no matter what.  Even if it didn't mean life or death, just giving up something for my horse that my family needed or whatever.  Family comes first!

  2. I had a QH gelding who I'd purchased as a four year old.  He was with me over twenty years (Longer than most marriages last nowadays.).  He knew my moods better than I knew them. He was my fence horse, my rope horse and of course my trail horse.  He was part of my family.

With his passing, my father commented that I mourned that old horse probably more than I'd mourn his own passing.  He was right!

  3. Absolutly!! They are family too! :)

However would i give up my horse if it was between him and my family, i would have to choose the family

  4. my horse is part of my family :)

  5. No!  And I can't imagine that happening.

  6. "I live in a house but my life is in the barn".  I don't know who said that but I'd like to acknowledge and Thank whoever.

My horses are my family.  My human family have their own lives to live, matters to attend.  My horses are the ones who look for me every single day.  My horses always greet me with enthusiasm.  They demonstrate appreciation and affection.

    YES, I love my horses.

  7. Horses are family!

  8. yes my horse is part of my family

  9. Of course! Especially when you've had them for a long time. I've owned my tb for 9 years, and I probably love him more than most of my extended family, and I would probably say that my attachment to him is on a par with close family. When you've looked after a horse every day for a long time, you get to know their character quirks and personality; and you certainly don't spend as much time and money on family as you do on a horse!

  10. My horse IS my family. In fact, I think I love him MORE than I love my family. Mac (my horse) relies on me for things and he trusts me completely and he'll never lie to me or hurt me (at least not on purpose). People can be vindictive and angry, horses and all animals always have a clear reason for acting the way that they do. When I was younger I was annoyed because all my horse-ships were waaaay better than my friendships, but I've grown to realize that some people friendships can be as positive as my bond with Mac. If Mac was hurt and I had a family obligation, you can bet your butt that I would NOT be attending that obligation. I love him so much it's hard to explain without sounding a little pervy.

Jessy M - Thumbs up for totally understanding! I am now lucky enough to have a group of friends that understand Mac comes first unless they schedule ahead of time and after I've tended to Mac they're there for me, even if I'm dirty, covered in horse hair, and smelly.

  11. Yes and sometimes more than!!

Our horses are part of our family and are loved to within an inch of their lives.  Even when they can no longer be ridden they get to stay with us and live out their retirement in their own paddock, with their own stable and just chill.  They served us, and we love them - so they wouldnt ever be put out to someone else just because they are old and grey.  Just as we wouldnt farm our grannies out either!!!!!

  12. If you want to love your horse then love it LIKE another horse would respond to a friend. Choose if you want the horse to be the dominant one or you are to be the more dominant - it is either one way or the other with horses.

Play games with your horse that are instinctive to the horse, such as the type described in Parelli 7 games. These establish great bonding and allow a natural order between horse and human

I love my horses, but I am herd leader and they respect that and therefore we have great bonding.

  13. Sometimes more then I care to admit

  14. My family breeds arbain horses for a living so i have to. Ande being a boy i got my girlfriend who is hot because i was the only boy in my team. It is in my blood to ride horses

  15. What are you talking about? My horses ARE part of my family! I don't know what I would do without them....

  16. My horse is my family!  He is like a child to me, i fuss over him, worry about him, talk to him lol..  They are definitely part of the family.

  17. WELL ITS NOT ANY DIFFERENT THEN OWNING A CAT OR DOG , JUST ALITTLE BIGGER AND MORE EXPENSIVE! THEY PICK YOU TOO ITS NOT JUST WEATHER  YOU WANT THEM. THEY THINK RATIONALIZE AND PROCESS WHAT WE DO TO THEM AS WELL AS WE DO, THERE JUDGMENT I THINK IS BETTER BECAUSE THEY DONT PROCESS LIKE A HUMAN , THEY CATCH THE IMPORTANT THINGS , SO YEAH ITS IN YOUR HEART DONT LOSE IT, WE NEED ALOT MORE TRUE HORSE PEOPLE OUT THERE . KEEP LEARNING AND LISTEN TO THE HORSES

  18. yeah, esp my horse Buck. he was my barrel horse and roping horse that my parents bought from the slaughter when i was born for me.  He took me all over the place to rodeos and local shows, we did everything just for fun, halter, english (never won anything lol, i dont know how to properly ride english), western pleasure classes, barrels, poles, roping, etc.  He was a big stout 15.1 blood bay QH gelding with only a star, and he was soo beautiful

He died on my moms birthday 3 years ago, saddest day i have ever had, watch him lay there and die in my arms

so yes, i did love him like a family member

EDIT:: Tarah i had a lot better friend ships with my horses too when i was younger, they were always there for me and would come to meet me as i walked into the pasture, unlike my friends, they would only be there when it was conveinent for them
