And if so... who?

example..I have lived in Columbus, Ohio for the last 4 years (work related), and I respect Jim Tressel (don't really consider him a big game genius..but he is a really good coach), there are players I really admire(d) on the Buckeyes (I a huge fan of AJ Hawk)... but the complete unreasoning HOMER mentallity of the fan base.. where pointing out a weakness is tantamount to treason? It makes me SAVOR watching them get destroyed on the national stage. Sadly...this reality check never seems to get through to them.

A pity..because while it's far from the best team, they have a GOOD team. (Though Boeckman is gonna get BURNED by USC).

  1. I don't know about ever wanting to like them, but I used to have respect for Texas Longhorns, until I moved to Texas.  Growing up in Nebraska, I have always been loyal to the Huskers (and that will never change).  Longhorns have some of the worst fans ever.  I was actually told that if I didn't change my loyalty, I needed to get the"h**l out ot Texas" (direct quote from a horns fan).  Also, I attended the Big 12 championship game that Nebraska won over Texas.  At the end of the game, I had to help out an elderly Nebraska couple theat were being verbally attacked by a group of young Horns fans.  Very sad and pathetic display of sportsmanship.  I no longer have any respect for he Longhorns.  I will cheer on the Aggies or the Sooners before I ever cheer for the Horns again!

  2. I want to like the Oklahoma Sooners (considering they recruit all our best TEXAS high school players) But I just cant see myself going to the other side being aTexas longhorn and all. Oklahoma's fans really do suck when they come to the Dallas fair park for the red river rilvary. They have no respect for Texans. go figure

  3. no, i'm a fan of who "I" want to be a fan of. i thought the Terry C answers was interesting reading because he is "that fan" of "THE TEAM, with the worst fans"

  4. Well, I tried to like the New York Mets (I'm a Yankee fan) but Met fans make it almost impossible. They hate the Yanks so much, I can't be happy for the Mets when they do something good.

But back to football. Why can't Buckeye fans feel confident about their team every year? Yes, the last two BCS games were bad games but that has no bearing on what happens this year. It seems like OSU is the only team who, if they don't win the whole thing, they're not a "good team". "You didn't win a championship, you suck". Guess what? 118 other teams didn't win the big one either and many them dont have the coaching or the talent anyway.

  5. The Raiders and the Steelers fans make it impossible for me to RESPECT them, but I dont want to like either team.

  6. Ohio State and Michigan come to mind for me...Ohio State especially...because, as you point out, the fans talk trash all year long about playing for a national championship...and then they get demolished...

I have ties to Michigan, so I sort of felt for Lloyd Carr basically being unofficially run out of town after losing to Appalachian last year...but I can't be a fan because Notre Dame runs through my flesh and blood, and every year, some Michigan fans talk trash about ND, as do some Michigan players...So, I can't really EVER be a fan...

In the NFL, I really wish I could be a Colts fan...Tony Dungy may very well be the classiest coach in the NFL...and well, Bill Belichick...Not so much...and I liked Peyton in college, cause I used to live in Tennessee, but I am originally from Boston and have ALWAYS followed the Patriots, even when they sucked...so, in the neverending Brady vs. Manning debate and because the Colts and Patriots are archrivals, I hate Manning with a passion...*L*...Therefore, as a Patriots fan, I CANNOT be a Colts fan...

  7. nope

  8. actually agree with you, I live in Ohio and I've tried to root for the Buckeyes, but the fans are just the biggest homers. I watched the OSU Michigan game in 2006, and after OSU won, this OSU fan said, "In your face Bo Schembechler" (this was right after he had died). That was so classless.

  9. Absolutely!

My hatred for the Eagles is more fan-based than team-based!  They make it IMPOSSIBLE to have a different opinion from theirs.

I'm so glad I live within 50 miles of a narrow-minded group of individuals... oops, did I insult someone?

  10. Not really. I've never WANTED to like the Raiders...

  11. Yes! Ever since i moved here to Georgia (Atlanta-Metro Area) all i ever hear about is UGA. I don't have a problem with the players or coaching staff (Mark Richt is an excellent coach and they have really good players such as Massaquai, Moreno, Ellerby).

Their fans just talk their team up like crazy and they think Moreno is the second coming of Christ. They also criticize you if your team doesn't play in the SEC because they think the SEC is the fricken NFL or something. They are too d**n stubborn when you point out facts/blunders about the SEC and they just go in denial. The crazy thing is that half their fans are drunk rednecks who have never even been to college nor finished high school.

    UGA fans= annoying redneck fans

  12. Have you ever tried to like a team and then some guy unretires, comes back divides the fans and then goes to some scrub team where he is destined to fade into history as a flop?

The whole time the media is interviewing toothless, uneducated ya-who's that are chanting against your beloved team on national TV.

Back whatever team you like, forget everyone else. Life is too short to care what they think!

  13. YEAH i'VE TRYED TO LiKE THE STEELERS BUT THE FANS GAS EM UP S000 MUCH AND HATE AND TALK 2 MUCH GARBAGE..S00 i JUSS L0VE MY PATRi0TS

  14. I wanted to like the Bulldogs but their fans were arrogant. Most were a bunch of rednecks that got upset every time someone said USC (not south Carolina but Southern California). So they would just make statements about how bad of a state California is and now living down south is much better, and they would do nothing but complain about California instead of talking football. Those fans said a lot of racist things too. Plus, I have respect for the Bulldogs but I do not like them. The state of Georgia was a terrible state to live in. If I liked the state I would have probably been a Bulldogs fan.

Well, now I am a fan of teams like Michigan, Washington, Stanford, UCLA and lol any team I would get a fair shot of playing on, I am going to be a senior in high school.

I am rooting for Illinois this year, I just moved to New York but my Junior year I played quarterback in Chicago, I threw for 2412 yds, 25 TDs and 9 ints, my coach told me I have a good shot of playing for a D-1A college. I am going to finish my senior year off in New York :(
