  1. That's a funny question we just had a discussion about that here at work today.  I live in San Diego and we refer to most latin immigrants as Mexican though most are actually from other countries (Guatamala, El Salvador, etc).  I heard a stat once that actually only about 20% of the illegal immigrants were actually Mexican. Not sure about that stat though.

  2. No i haven't because i don't automatically believe that someone that is hispanic is Mexican.

  3. No because it is ignorant to assume that just because someone speaks Spanish or appears Hispanic they are Mexican. I am Argentinian and it drives me crazy because although I don't fit into the typical "hispanic" stereotype my last name is Gonzalez(very hispanic) and sometimes people see my name and say that's funny you don't look MEXICAN! That is so rude. You should never assume someone is a certain race and I don't get offended if people ask but jeesh don't assume just because my last name is Spanish that I must be this or must be that. I think other cultures/nationalities are so interesting to learn about. I am always inquisitive about where people come from or what their background is but there is def. a respectful way of going about it;) I make guesses too but never say oh you MUST be Mexican. Even if you think they are doesn't mean you have to say it outloud. But you could always ask...if you don't mind my asking what nationality are you?;) Sorry to run on but I feel so strong about this topic.

    Buenas

  5. yes, it happens down here in south florida a lot, so many people  from south and centrial america, its hare to know, and no one gets upset down here because they all have did the same thing to each other.we have so many people from all over, and you see very little anger or nasty words to one and other

  6. I have that done to me though...

I don't get angry or anything is just that because I go to school and California and I speak Spanish people assume I'm from Mexico... I doesn't bother me, but I think people should now the fact that there are other Latin American countries besides Mexico and Cuba...

But once I was with someone who had that happened to them and they just got extremely angry... I didn't understand why though...

    Hope this helps

    Take Care :-)
