I am curious if anyone else's cat has done this. I know dog's eat cat food but I have never heard of a cat eating dog food. I was refilling my dog food container and a couple pieces fell on the kitchen floor. When I went to pick them up my cat was sniffing one. So I watched and she ate it! This isn't the first time I have seen her eat a piece of dog food. I am just curious to find out exactly how weird my cat is! LOL

  1. Yes, one of my cats does this.

However, he is an FIV+, crazy 3-legged cat and my dog's food is this swanky premium stuff that costs about $60 a bag. So the cat's at least got good taste.

  2. just today the vet told me never to give my cats, dog food. i guess she likes it or had nothing else to eat, so it ate the dog food. try not to let her eat it.

  3. Yes. Cats will eat dog food in much the same way that Ferrets will eat Cat food. It is not recommended over a long period of time, but every once in a while does not seem to hurt them.

  4. To a cat it's although it would be better if they did, but they can't tell the difference between the foods as can't dogs so although dog food might be better for dogs to eat because it's designed for them and the same with cats, if they acciedently eat each other's food, then don't fret-nothing will happen. It won't hurt them.

  5. Yes actually, just the other day while our dog was eating out of his bowl our cat walked up to the bowl as the dog was eating, stuck her head in there, and they were both eating the dog food at the same time.

  6. Yup!

My cat used to eat friskies and we feed the dog science diet (sensitive skin). We notice he'll grab 1-2 kibbles and eat it. Since there so big, compare to his food I guess 1-2 is enough for a meal. Well once he was done with friskies, we bought him science diet for cats. Problem is, now the dog eats all of his food.

  7. LOL!  Yes.  =)

  8. Your cat is not weird. Yes, I have seen cats eat dog food and vice versa. It is not good for them to make a diet out of dog food though because cats require more meat content in their dry or wet food and not a lot of fillers.Cats are carnivores and require a higher meat content than dogs.
