  1. Why would you want to do a thing like that? I had a forced time out when I was drafted into the Army back in the early 70's. All the time I was away from the water I thought about the water. What's good for the body is supposed to be good for the mind, but whoever quoted that phrase didn't surf. Taking time out from anything if you feel it's beneficial is ok in itself, but the question is, what do you want to do? I grew up and surfed most of my life, and the health aspects of it are top flight. But I also used medatation and music ( keyboards, guitar, drums and hammered Dulcimer ) to take me to the place of restoration. Try to find that place for yourself, because the water is the source the binds.

  2. I live in the northeast U.S., and I am a wimp at heart. I go south to do most of my winter surfing, but usually only two or three trips a year. So, basically I am 'resting and restoring' most of the time from November to March, with just a couple S.Carolina trips mixed in. I am 55, so I don't 'rest and restore', I get slower and fatter during my down time.
