  1. I'm only 14 so no, but my dads friend from high school used to take me all the time, i mean weekly my dad could not at the time because of work. and the guy has like 80 guns...and was x-air force, so needless to say i knew how to shoot before i had a gun in my hand.

  2. Yes and no.

Went with a co-worker and she fired my .45 and 7.62 X 25 as well as a .357...she bought a .357 to carry when she is biking.

My [almost] daughter-in-law fired one round from a 9MM pistol, put it down carefully and said" I don't like that very much." Never touched it again.

  3. Yes to both questions.

In every case, where there had been fear and misunderstanding, before, there was understanding and appreciation afterward.  And a couple of times, it became expensive keeping the new shooter in ammo.

    Doc

  4. Most if the people I took have there own guns now.I had a girlfriend a few years back that I took shooting, for some reason she really hated it.

  5. G'Day mate I've have taken a lot of people with me that didn't have a gun licence  and i showed them everything i know, and the laws.Every single person i have taken have a gun licence now.so now i don't take any new people or there going to be a pig, rabbit, deer shortage in Australia.cheers mate

  6. Yes. I was a firearms instructor for our department. Took many "new" people to the range. We had classes beforehand and took much of the "mystery" out of the firearm.

I found females easiest to teach since they had no pre-conceived notions of firearms and actually became pretty good shots within a short time. Of course you don't start someone out on a huge magnum unless you want to turn people off of shooting.

Younger males were ok to teach also but th hardest to teach were males that had a little experience, that were older. Hard to believe what watching TV can do to your pre-conceived notions.

I think women enjoyed it the most and then the younger males but all enjoy doing something like this if taught properly.

  7. I've taken several female coworkers to shoot, all but one had never handled a "real gun". They all really enjoyed it, and one still shoots with me from time to time.  If you want to ruin shooting for a newbie, start them on a magnum, if you want the newbie to enjoy the experience, and want to shoot more, start them on a 22lr, gradually work up to larger calibers, if they want to, and you think they can handle it.

  8. I took a buddyy shooting for the first time.  He enjoyed it, I have not seen him in a while so I don't know if he went again or took up the sport himself.

  9. Yes, my neighbor had a cousin from the UK visiting him. I had some gun shirt on when we met and he had a profound interest in firearms but never had handled or fired one. The next day we went to a range and he shot a Glock 22C, GP-100, Suppressed Ruger 22/45, M-1 carbine, M-16A1 (registered machine gun) I took several short video clips of him shooting to take back and show his friends.

I sent him a Glock T-shirt for Christmas.

The funny thing is, I was once stationed at RAF Mildenhall, UK, not 30 minutes from his home.

  10. many times just let them know before you go that what you say goes. and teach them some firearm safety before you go.

  11. Yes they had a great time and there was no one else who would do it. If you can its a great sport to share with others.

  12. Oh yes,

    and,

    Oh h**l yes.

It went great, they loved it, and they went from being ambivilant about guns to understanding the attraction of shooting for the pure enjoyment of it. Most common comment?

"Wow, I love this, it's like therapy!"
