  1. Norway is a very expensive country, one of the most expensive in the world (second place after Iceland), but it´s a very beautiful country. Why not just visit the country to experience and see the beauty of it and leave the shopping to another time and place.

  2. The prices in Norway are notoriously high.  In fact, Norway has the second highest cost of living of any country in the world (1st is Iceland).  As a general rule of thumb, prices are 2-3 times what they are in the US and 1.5-2 times what they are in the UK.  Of course, this varies greatly depending on what kinds of things you're interested in purchasing.

As a traveler, one of your biggest expenses will be food, and eating out in Norway can be very expensive.  The cheapest option is a hot dog from a corner news stand, which costs around $5 USD and is usually considered a snack.  You can get street food like kebabs for around $10, and a fast food "value meal" usually costs around $15.  Main dishes at the cheapest restaurants are around $20, and at most middle-of-the-road places, a main dish costs $30-40.  Needless to say, finding a supermarket and making some of your own food (i.e. sandwiches) is probably your best option!

If you can afford it, Norway may be a good place to shop for outdoor equipment, since camping, trekking, sailing, etc. are all very popular.  Most sporting goods stores sell very high-end equipment and stick to very well-respected brands.  There's also a lot of variety available for this kind of merchandise.

It's also one place you can shop for Scandinavian design home goods.  While Denmark and Sweden are both better known for this, you can still find a reasonable selection in Norway (though much of it is imported from the other two countries).

And of course, if you're looking for purely Norwegian products like Norwegian sweaters, pewter, glasswork, silver, etc. then it's probably still your best option for quality products, since it will cost just as much outside of Norway with the added costs of importing.

  3. My husband lived there and we both travelled around Norway.  It is a truely beautiful country which I love and is close to my heart as I got married there!  For nature, countryside, landscapes and pure beauty, it really is up there as a wonderful holiday

However, it really is true what is written about it being expensive - both to live and also to visit as a tourist.  Therefore Norway is really not the best country for a tourist to go shopping if they want to make the most of their money.  You would be wise to go elsewhere for the shopping side of things.......... but don't let this deter you from visiting.  You will not regret it as a holiday
