Any tips? It seems like every time a vacation comes up I'm broke.

I'm leaving for Jamaica in a few days and I'm about to tap into the savings account I just started for the umpteenth time. I'm also bringing credit cards in case of an emergency. What is the best thing to do to maximize my situation? I don't want to spend more than $500 for the 5 days I will be there. Is it possible? What are the best tips? We're going to be in an expensive, touristy type area in Jamaica.

  1. Your best bet is to meet locals who can show you the best sights for the smallest amount.

  2. Yeah, I traveled ALL the way to Costa Rica to study abroad, completely broke. But when my school financial aid kicked in, I was alright. I believe it's do-able. Usually, countries like that, have lots of things for DIRT cheap. If it's just you spending $$ on yourself, you'll be alright. I know your flight & hotel are paid for.

  3. Those expensive/touristy parts of Jamaica are usually all-inclusive.  Did someone buy you a ticket and accomodations?  If so, just don't buy anything.
