Question:

Have you ever used a paint pen to fix a scratch on your car?

Over the weekend some maggot keyed my trunk lid. I'm really not in the mood to shell out several hundred to get it totally repainted and ordered a paint pen to have a go at it and see if I can get it looking at least decent. Anyone have any experience?

  1. Sorry to hear that Memo.  Ya just gotta stop hang'n around the Dems!

  2. Follow the freak shows advice, but when you buff it out, cover corners, edges with tape so you dont burn them out.

Start out with a rubbing compound, then switch to a clean buffing pad and use a polish.

If the scratch went to the metal, under the primer you need to re-prime the scratch first.

  3. If you are careful, you can use touch-up paint to make a barely visible repair. Carefully build up enough paint so that the new paint is just slightly higher than the original paint. Then slowly and gently block sand it back with 600 wet paper with a little bit of soap added to the water. Follow with 800, then 1000 and polish it out. I have done that before with fairly large nicks in the paint and unless you really know where it happened, you can't tell at all.

    Good luck.
