Have you ever visited a disused underground station?

Question

My parents' local tube was the (disused) Aldwych (platform 5 from Holborn), but have you ever been to a disused underground station? Not just in London, but anywhere (e.g. City Hall in New York).

If you have, what was it like? This is something I would love to do myself but that anti-terrorism nervousness will almost certainly prevent in my life, so I'm trying to live vicariously through yours... :-)

Once went into Dover Street underground station in Piccadilly, London.  It has not been in use for at least 50 years.  It was quite spooky and like stepping back in time. No cobwebs, surprisingly!  A lot of dust though and there was a very old newspaper.  The wall posters were interesting too.  It struck me that it was a waste of a space that could quite easily have been converted into a club or maybe used by MI6.

Aldwych. London Transport had an Open Day. The platform was used as a test site for alternative decorative panels and also was available for hire as a film set.

I haven't 1st person, but i've seen footage. It's rather spooky, but often suprisingly clean, apart from all the dust. Also, they're normally kept in an "as closed" condition, so are almost as if the last train left yesterday...

Yeah back when I knew San Frnacisco Muni operators, I was able to get off at Eureka St. Station.  This was on a heritage streetcar going back to the barn before the J extension opened up.  It was dingy, dirty, graffiti'ed, and small.  (of course it was half destroyed by the Metro construction in the 70s.)

London Underground used to occasionally open disused stations for enthusiasts, but I believe they have stopped the practise for a number or reasons - terrorist fears, the ever present worries over Health and Safety etc. A list of closed stations can be found here:- http://www.londonrailways.net/ghosts.htm...

I have not been in a disused underground station as such, but I did go into the Midland Road Box, before it was fitted out and became First Capital Connects new St Pancras station.

At the time there was lots of wooden hording the escalators were lying on the floor next to the hole they were going to be fitted, and the noise of a train when it went past was lets say loud, as the place had not been sound profed.

I realy enjoyed to the visit & can now say that I went there before it was open...You could say the same for the old Kings Cross Thames Link Station....As I have been through that just as it closed.
