Question:

Have you ever waterproofed your basement? How much did you pay?

We have a basement that is just over 1000 square feet. A local company quoted us $7500 to waterproof the basement, fill in the bad sump pump area (whole in the ground), and create a new one. 3 days with a crew of 3-4 guys.

The company has a lifetime guarantee of a dry basement. They're using a "Water Guard" system that is built up on the footer, along the walls.

Anybody have advice? Tips, experience with this situation? What did you pay? Is the price right?

Any thoughts are appreciated, thanks!

PS - We're not just doing this to have a finished basement, we're doing it because we have a mold problem that is getting pretty bad, so its a health concern.

  1. My grandmother had this done last year.  She paid 7K I believe.

  2. I know we did not have to pay that much, but that was about 6 years ago and things have quadrupled since then!!!!  We had a basement issue and we had a company called B-Dry come in.  I think they were a local company, too.  We actually were able to get our homeowners insurance to pick up some of the bill(something you really have to look into)...We ended up paying around $2000.00 out of pocket and we did some research as well.  We also called some of their other clients just for more info.  It is alot of $$$$ to spend so make sure you get a few quotes...Good luck.

  3. Hi  im  Karen I have a  basement  dont spend all  that money put in a water proof Y-self   for  bout 200.00  and  buy a dehumidifer it cost  bout 100.00  and  5.00 a month  to  run in ele. thats  what  we  did  5 yrs ago. My husband builds high rises

  4. $7500 sound reasonable for what they are doing and it's probably wise to have it done.

However, while you wait, consider the remarkable research on toxic mold removal done by environmental expert Dr Ed Close. Simply diffusing a therapeutic-grade essential oil regularly will likely result in an environment very hostile to mold.

Cost of the Thieves Household Cleaner, a diffuser and a couple bottles of the Thieves oil that Dr Close recommends to his remediation clients: about $250.
