  3. My step-grandpa was a section foreman for the Sante Fe (now Burlington Northern and Sante Fe)   He spent most of his career repairing rails and rail beds in Arizona and New Mexico.      He did not have a lot "good" to say about rail inspectors.  Then he did not have much "good" to say about anyone or anything.  You know the type of guy.    That would be my closest connection with the Sperry Rail Detector.   At least,  I knew what the ..... you were talking about.

I was just making a mental list of the different jobs I've had during my life time.  Seems great minds think alike.!!!

My favorite job is the one I have this week/ten days.   I have my 20 month old granddaughter.    I have my hands full in case you don't see much of the eek avatar..

  4. Of course I have heard of Sperry Rail.  They are not in Danbury, though, they are the next town over in Bethel.  Currently, on the line I am working on, I pass by Sperry Rail inspection and sonar wave car number 125.  I have also seen other cars from Sperry elsewhere, including an old Mack FCD Railbus that sits in Danbury in the railway museum.  It used to be owned by Sperry Rail, and was used as a parts bus, after taken out of passenger service.  However, it fell out of use, and was placed on a sidetrack for a number of years, letting it rot.  The Danbury Railway Museum bought it and are trying to restore it.  It is still in bad shape.  I hope this answer is what you are looking for.  Also, I might have a picture or two of the railbus and the Sperry 125 car, so if you want, just ask, and I will try to find them and send them to you.
