  1. RUN and runt Fast!

Barbizon is a school - NOT an agency.  There's a big difference.

Barbizon may not charge you to be represented but they will charge you for classes and pictures and a portfolio - which will end up being pretty expensive.

Here's the thing: Barbizon is a school.  They make their money by selling model hopefuls training.  They are more interested in your money than your talent.  Often you'll find Barbizon models taking classes they have no reason to take (for example models 5'4" required to take runway classes - a market they will NEVER work in because they're too short).

When you spend your entire week trying to sell classes to models where do you have time to find work for your clients?  See where I'm going?

I've been in this industry for 8 years and I've not yet met a model who's been taken by Barbizon, JRP, Cassablanca's or any of the other schools who felt the overly inflated prices they paid were worth it in the end.

If you really want to get started in modeling visit OneModelPlace.com - it's a huge online community for the industry.  You can network, find photographers (some of which will even work with you for free to build a portfolio), and depending on your area you might even find jobs.  As with anything on the Internet, DO YOU RESEARCH before working with anyone, always check references and take someone with you to any shoot.
