Im a waitress and I really want to travel some too.I know the work is hard.My questions are did you enjoy your job? Is it safe? How small are the quarters and how many people did you have to share a room with? How was the pay? I figure since I have no bf and no kids it might be the perfect job for me.

  1. I have worked on ships for about 11 years and really enjoyed seeing the world and getting paid doing it. Like you say it is a perfect job when you're still single.

Depending on your function you can expect to share a cabin with 1 to 5 other staff. Basically rule is how higher your function, the less people in your cabin. Cabins are not too big but you'll spend your time there sleeping anyway so that doesn't matter much. Most ships have enough space to spend your time off (crew mess, crew bar).

It is hard work and salary depends on yourself as well as you really depend on tips. If the ship has a tipping policy salary will be low. If there is no tipping policy your salary will be higher.

Besides working many hours a day, you should keep in mind you will have weekly your safety drills and probably not too much time to get off the ship while in port. If you want to see more of the places the ship goes to, consider working as a dealer in the casino or as a photographer. The casino is never open while in port so you can go ashore and enjoy yourself and photographers have lots of time to get off the ship as well.

    Hope this will help you.

    Happy sailings!

  2. I worked for Holland America on the

    MS Noordam.

I enjoyed it, had a great time saw the world.

2 people to a room was the norm. Bunk beds, 2 closets, a couch, a desk are, a tv, a bathroom.
