  1. yep, i exercise racehorses. its the best job in the world

  2. Yes, I worked on a horse farm for about ten years.  Worked with quarter racers, barrell horses, thoroughbreds.. all kinds of equine athletes.

  3. Yes

I worked ona farm where we bred mares and kept a stud horse.

They also trained and raced horses.

We kept most of ours at the farm and hauled into the track for racing days as it was in the same town. We would ship horses to other tacks in the general area for their racing seasons.

I did a little of everything from mucking stalls to helping in the breeding shed and riding as an exercise rider.

  4. basically yes, my dad and i own a farm that breeds/raises race horses.  Its a world i would never want to be without

  5. Yes.  I've worked with Quarter horses and Thoroughbreds.  I am currently working with Thoroughbreds at Hawthorne Race Course in Illinois.  I've worked at race tracks in Illinois, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.  I also worked on a Thoroughbred breeding farm as well. Although I prefer to working with race horses at the track rather than breeding farms.

  6. Yes, I have worked on two of the major stud farms in Newmarket, although I left the last one some 5 and a half years ago.

I worked as a general stud hand, handling mares and foals, barren mares, maiden mares and the teasers.  I took mares for covering and also assisted in many foalings.

In my time on studs I was fortunate to work with very high calibre mares including Walimu, Fire The Groom, Embassy, Zahrat Dubai, Bint Shadayid, Al Bahathri, Chancey Squaw, Negligent (evil cow!), Oh So Sharp, and many more.

  7. I've ridden horses who were retired from the track but that is as close as I have gotten to working with a race horse.

  8. yes, next question

  9. Yes, I do 5 or 6 days a week. I fell in love with racing at the age of 3, since I am over 6' tall and was not born into racing I spent a long time looking for a way in.

I worked on farms, loved the horses hated the job. I worked as a hot walker years ago, and then as a groom. Went to school to be a Vet, and fast became disillusioned with that but hung on for a BSc.

Then one day I discovered Equissage thru a friend who is in Dressage and showing horses.  I couldn't enroll in the class fast enough! I spent 2 HARD years working up to the better race tracks and farms on the East Coast.

Whenever I heard someone say "My job isn't work, it's a love affair" I always thought yeah, right. But I can honestly say my job ISN'T work, it IS a love affair. Not to say there aren't hard days, like losing a favorite client to an accident etc... but a bad day massaging horses beats a GREAT day at the office, at least for me it does.

My next endeavor? I want to take a course on Chiropractics for horses. I'd love to be able to take care of more than minor aches and pains, but not go so far as surgery.
