“Masquerade”

Chains

worn with pride

once meant to contain

the spirit of my people...

Bind

Eyes closed

We dare not speak

We try to rise above

Yet the prejudice still remains...

Such hate

The struggle

continues, as each day

a little bit of pride is swallowed.

We wear masks fearful, that someday, someone will see

Our true face

Masking true colours from the ones who follow

Are my treasures at the end of the rainbow.

  7. Well spoken, it speaks of any oppressed sect or faith.  The only critique I would venture is your line: 'a little bit of pride is swallowed.'  Maybe some more original wording to make a stronger impact?

The last time I did wear a mask, I was caught on film!!!!
