I cruised the hawaiian Islands. The food was awful. They older folks always got to the buffettes for dinner at about 4 pm and when it was gone it was gone. Luckily this was a once in a lifetime cruise I had planned for 10 years and I was in the front of the ship. It was awsome to see Kilahua at night by sea. Foetunately we had a butler who got us reservations where the better food was, But it wasn't that much better. Glad I did it but probably wouldn't again.

  1. Sounds like you were on one of the NCL-America ships.  They are having service problems.  I would recommend that you try Holland American LIne (HAL) or Celebrity.  Both offer much better quality service and food when compared to NCL.

Personally I have been on seven cruises and have four more booked.  I have been on short cruises lasting three nights and I have been on long cruises lasting fourteen nights.  However, most of the cruises I go on are one week cruises.

Another problem with the Hawaiian Islands cruises on NCL is that you are in port every day.  You don't get to experience how relaxing a day at sea can be.  Might I suggest that you try Alaska, where you will see wonderful sights and spend a couple of days at sea.

I have been on three Carnival cruises, two Royal Caribbean cruises, one Norwegian and one on the Universe Explorer (I don't remember the name of the company).  I have been to Alaska once, the Mexican Riviera twice, Baja California once, the Western Caribbean twice and the Eastern Caribbean once.

I have cruises booked for the Southern Caribbean, the east coast of Canada, the Mexican Riviera again and the next one is to the Panama Canal.

As you can see, I enjoy cruising.  It is too bad that your first experience was with a company that is having service problems.

  2. Carnival Victory to Canada this past June 30th, it was eehhh alright. Norwegian is awesome

  3. My family took a week long cruise on Carnival to Mexico (Cabo, Puerta Vallarta and Acapulco).  The ship was great all around...staff and food.  We were traveling with our two kids ages 4 and 10 and they had a blast.  The salt water pool was the only HUGE bummer for them the whole cruise.  They loved the kids activities and 24 hour pizza and ice cream.  My husband and I enjoyed the entertainment.  We ate only once or twice at the sit down dinners and the food was good.  I found the buffet to be more to my liking because I am a fairly picky eater.  All around we had a great time and would do it again in a heartbeat!

I am sorry to hear you did not have a good time but I encourage you to try another cruise.  Maybe on a different cruise line.

  4. I've done two cruises to the Caribbean on Royal Caribbean and both have been great. The food in both dining room and buffets was excellent. There was plenty of activities and the excursions were fun, though a bit expensive. I'd love to take all my vacations as cruises.

  5. I can say I have never seen service you have described, the cruises I have been on were great, Carnival is wonderful will go again, many times if we can. First I always eat in the dinning room the food and service is 5 star. We sail out of Florida and the ports from there are all beautiful and fun.

  6. I went to the Caribbean from Texas....with Carnival Conquest.

That was my 1st cruise n it was fantabulous!! There was so much to eat n so many activities.

  7. I have been on two cruises before. 1 in 2002 on the Carnival Elation to the Mexican Rivera which included stops like Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallerta, & Mazatlan. The customer service was outstanding, the ship was immaculate, the food was great, and the entertainment was wonderful. The only complaint I have for this cruise is trying to cram 4 adults into an outside cabin which is our own fault ;)

I went on another cruise this year on the Holland America Oosterdam to Alaska with ports such as Juneau, Ketichkan, Sitka, and then a day trip to the Hubbard Glacier. Even though Holland America is supposed to  be higher up than Carnival in Carnival Corporation Standards, Holland America is definitely geared towards elderly, low key people. The entertainment was so so and the ship was lacking in some areas. However, Alaska was truly amazing. I would recommend going to Alaska, it took my breath away.

  8. no my mom and dad are to scared that something bad will happen to me!!!!

  9. I took a cruise up the inside passage from Seattle to Haines, Alaska. It was incredible and while it wasn't a plush cruise, it was the most wonderful experience.   The scenery was out of this world, the people that were on the ship were great and I loved the cool air vs the summer heat we had left behind.  Ended up spending most of the summer up in Alaska and fished trout, king and sockeye salmon, and halibut and ate like a king the whole trip.
