  1. Did Moscow - Beijing in 2001. It was a great experience. Expect sub-zero temperatures: Nov- April. Do a web search; there is plenty of info available.


  2. Worked on that route for 2 summers. did the trip about 10 times.

    It is as good, better or worse than what they say. It just depends who 'they' are and how much they liked it.

    There's actually no such thing as the 'Trans Siberian Express'. It's just a clever name made up by tour companies to sell tours.

    The train line itself is called the Trans Siberian Railway and runs from Moscow to Vladivostok.

    The more popular route is to take the Trans Mongolian through Mongolia to Beijing.

    Several different trains run the different, or parts of, this route. There is a weekly service between Beijing and Moscow. As well as the famous Rossiya from Moscow to Vladivostok.

    Personally my favourite train is the Baikal between Moscow and Irkutsk.
