Or gentry and working class.

Mine are all working class, with a very light spattering of millowning gentry

  1. We have a story in my family that my great grandfather was some sort of duke when Italy was still a monarchy. He supposedly had an illegitimate child since his wife couldn't give birth. I don't know if it's true though. My grandfather died in the 60's and my dad was only 8, so no one really knows if it's true anymore.

But on my mother's side I'm apparently a fairly direct descendant of William Kidd who was a pirate from Scotland, and I believe we have paperwork to show for it.

  2. Apparently Robert The Bruce (Scottish king) is one of my ancestors, from my father's side. He's my great, great, great, great *continues until she loses breath and turns blue!*  grandfather.

I've never actually seen any proof of this but he does look similar in the face to most of our family members, especially my dad - shame I'm not keen on the Royals eh? lol

  3. My 10th cousin's mother was a cousin of Lady Di - which makes me about 10 millioneth in line to the throne, I guess!

I have an ex Leader of the Liberal Party, a college friend (daughter of a Sir .......) who came to College in a chauffeur-driven car while I pedalled furiously on my bike; when I did my father's Tree, she and I were side by side at the bottom as cousins.

Direct descent, they were mostly bargemen and brewers who drank themselves to death at an early age!

  4. Actually we went to Spain a few years ago and ended up in a very small town called Billapanda my mothers maiden name is Billapando we did some digging and found out this priest that lived in the town with the last name of Billapanda had saved this town from ending up a battle site or something. they changed the town to his name and when his grandson came over here he changed his name to Billapando to make it easier to pronounce.

  5. Fat chance!  Pretty much all ag labs here!

  6. yeahhhhhhhhhh  ME.

  7. Nope - my dad's traced our family tree back, and I come from a long line of English peasants.  Oh well.

  8. I'm descended from a minister who was awarded a coat of arms for helping to translate the King James Bible.  Also from a very old Netherlands family which at one point may have been minor nobility.

I have to admit I find the soldiers a lot more interesting.  I have several who served in the Revolution and the War of 1812 but only one Civil War veteran (Confederate).

Oh--and Lee Greenwood's wife is my third or fourth cousin.

  9. mine is interesting too-  my gr.gr.gr.gr.gr (etc) grandfather was Myles Standish from the Mayflower.

Another ancestor was Rebecca Greensmith who was tried, convicted and hung as a witch in 1662 in Hartford, CT.

Plus i have nobles further back.

  10. Yes, I have about 3 generations back but as a very humble, ordinary person myself, I never broadcast the information.

  11. rich or poor we are all related somewhere

  12. 300 years of agricultural and general labourers; and counting...

Although my mother's side seems to be much more colourful, with a composer, and a soldier that fought alongside Napoleon in the French invasion of Russia. My grandfather was also the first white man to deliver a tribal baby in the Congo. I have a DVD of him delivering a baby, but I don't think it's the first one he did.

And in regards to the 'ag labs' and general labourers; someone's gotta do it, and I'm proud I can say that my ancestors build up the country I know and love today.

  13. Yes; by 3 separate lines, I have traced my ancestry back to Charlemagne; which means there are plenty other royalty.  But, hey, one of the grandmothers was burned at the stake as a witch! I have ancestors who were preachers, bishops, seamen, carpenters, soldiers, miners, farmers. etc., etc.

And so have you...you may not have found them yet, but they are there.  Because within the past 2,000 years, everone alive on earth today has the same ancestors.

  14. Most of my direct line are Miners Coal, Tin etc on my Fathers side and coal on my Mothers but one of the Surnames I am working on has connections to Celtic Nobility although I cannot get a firm handle on it.

  15. I have a set of 4X great grandparents whose life reads like a novel.  They eloped because he was a commoner and her daddy, who was of the Austrian nobility, objected to their relationship.  Apparently he had plans to wed her to some other nobility.  But they eloped and daddy chased them all the way to Hamburg, where they escaped on a ship to America.  A woman on the ship died in childbirth, and they adopted the baby, eventually reaching Indiana, where they had lots of kids of their own.

  16. I have found that my partner is 2nd cousin twice removed to Sir Louis Ridley Vaughan, a knighted big shot in the 1st World War.

And I am 11th cousin once removed to George W Bush

  17. I am related to a comedian named Danny Bhoy lol I know he's not royalty or anything but he is famous:)

  18. Yes - William 1st is 32 times great grandfather but I think pretty much anyone can prove that if they use a complicated enough route.
