  1. Its a beautiful country and its amazing how much great stuff is packed into such a small area.

Petty theft, like the others said, main things to watch out for. Don't leave valuable stuff like cameras in your room, the maids aren't well paid and do snitch stuff.  Keep your wallet in your front pocket.  And if you end up at the bus depot very early or very late and the streets are deserted I'd get a cab. In general Costa Rica is pretty safe.  There is somewhat of a crime problem on the Caribbean coast, especially the port of Limon.

  2. petty theft should be your biggest fear, other than that i promise it will be heaven on earth...

  3. I would also recommend Tortuguero in the Province of Limon. It's a mini-amazon and absolutely beautiful. Good luck with your trip!

  4. YES !   It was great and I'm going back in March / April. The only downside we heard off but never experienced ourselves was petty theft. Almost everyone we talked to that had stayed at "Private Resorts" had items stolen from their rooms {cell phones.money, credit cards, etc.} so be care full. Other then that you'll never see everything in 1 or 2 trips. The Monteverde Rain forests and Arenal Volcano are personal favorites. You must try the zip lining while there also. Bring a camera with plenty of memory {I used 2.5 gigs myself but all together we used 18 gigs} , watch for the Pisotes which are a cousin to our raccoons. The are beggars and love suger cookies while being very photogenic. ATV rides are available as are horses and scooters. We rented the Lazy Lizard {a beautiful Catamaran} based in Flamingo harbor for an afternoon cruise at sea along with some scuba diving and sea kayaking. Capt. Adam and his crew go all out with the treatment while your in his care! The surfing in the Tamerindo are was fantastic and hiking is everywhere. The people are so polite it's unreal, of course they tend to think that we're an abrasive people so speak quietly. The food everywhere was fantastic as were the drinks. Carry and use mosquito spray at all times {dengue fever sucks-trust me}. And ALWAYS carry your passport, do not let it out of your site. Take your own salt&pepper as they don't use what we use.
