  1. I have three caiques and I would not trade them for all the money in the world.

They don't need to be taught tricks - they're naturally acrobatic (seriously, they hang upside down as much as they do right side up).

Two I got from private breeders as young weaned "babies" (one was 3 months old and the other was 6 months old). The third came to me as a second-hand bird and she was 2-1/2 years old, but you'd never know it. She fits right in with the other two like they've been together all along.

I paid $850 for my white-bellied caique, from a breeder, when she was 3 months old. The second, also from a breeder, was cheaper ($500), because she was the last of the litter and 6 months old (I guess she was on sale). The third one I paid the lady $400 for, but they're all priceless to me.

  2. i have a african grey.its cute ,the cage is big,its does tricks,it was lot of money from a shop, cage was pricey.it eats food.

  3. I have two parrots, a Green Cheeked Conure, and a Blue Quaker.

The Green Cheeked I have had for nearly 2 years- he will turn 2 next month. He is the best bird in the world, very sweet, loving, and comical. He set me back $300 with the cage included, but I worked at the pet store after I got him and they ended up letting me only pay for half becuase I worked there for free so much!

He has a fairly standard large open top cage- its not huge but its a great size for him- I think if it were any bigger it would go to his head lol. The cages usually cosy about $80 AUD I think.

My Quaker is 2 and a half- I have had him for 6 months.

He set his old owners back $900 when they brought him (which is a total rip off) but I havent given them any money for him yet.

He has the same cage as my GCC which was a weird coincidence, which he came with.

He is a very sweet boy but is still not 100% handleable- after all he was a rescue, he is bound to have some baggage- but he is doing very well under my care and is very attached to me now.

Both birds talk- my GCC Inca proabably talks more than my Quaker, Conner.

They both eat small parrot seed, and fresh fruit and veggies such as apple, mandarin, capsicum, celery, carrot, etc + they usually get a bite or two of whatever I am eating- they are completely spoiled!

  4. african grey.lovebirds.

  5. I have 2 canaries.  A male and female.  They are both caged separately.  Their cages are pretty big, 3ft x 2ft.  I feed them Canary seed, egg biscuit, fruit, veggies etc.  They don't do tricks as such, as most canaries are not handtame - as mine aren't.  I didn't pay for either.  The male canary was given away as the owner didn't want it anymore and the female is an ex-breeding hen who came straight from her breeder.

  6. I presently have a sun conure and I have had cockateils and a parotlette.

Birds are wonderful. Very energetic, playful, loving, and they each have a wonderful personality.

Sun conures have high energy! They are very very loud also, so unless you don't mind a bird screaming at you...lol!!

If you want something that you can interact with I would suggest at least a budgie, or parakeet. They are the cheapest, smallest bird from the wide range you can choose from.

Birds are very intellegent and have their own personalities. We have a saying that you don't pick the bird, the bird picks you - this is very true!! I work at Petco, and finally brought my Conure home after he would scream mommy at me every time I worked - he chose me =)

So, I would do research (what your doing), find out which one by personality, needs, and care matches what your looking for. Do not be sad if you go to check some out and they don't take to you... it may take a few visits to a couple of different places, but you will find your match!

Here are some sites on different types of birds and their care. Check them out in detail as some of them have info on many types of birds.

  7. I got an African Grey Parrot for free from a rescue home. I couldn't teach her to do tricks as it loved it's previous owner who taught it none, she was twelve when i got her. I bought quite a large cage for her for £69 from a local pet shop. She talks a little bit, but only when your out the room because she likes attention, and she prefers no make noises. She's really annoying and hard to keep - she makes a mess everywhere. But that doesn't matter because she's mine :)

  8. I have a budgie, they are playful and can learn how to talk, plus they are small and cheap and their cage is small and everything is just wonderful about them!!!!!

oh i have had him for 2 years going on 3

i got him at petsmart for like... 14 dollars

  9. i have a parrotlet.  she really doesn't know any tricks other than she will sit on your finger and shoulder.  this breed isn't known for talking. and thank goodness they are not loud birds at all.  her cage is about 16 cubed.  i got it at a bird show for 15 dollars.  if i were you i wouldn't buy a cage from a pet store.  they are extremely over priced.  i just buy the 8 in 1 brand cockatiel seed for her. and treats every now and then.  i would suggest if you start out with a young bird, introduce them to different veggies early on, otherwise they'll become picky.  i got my bird from a breeder at a bird show in my town.  she was about a month old, so i had to continue to hand feed her till she was weaned onto seed. i purchased her for about 85 dollars and i've had her for five years. she's been a good little bird and i would suggest them to anyone. unless your wanting a bird that will learn to talk.  if your able to, get a bird that is hand fed, they are used to human contact which makes them tamer.  hand fed birds are a little more costly, but definitelty worth it.
