Hi everyone, I'm looking to raise money for cancer research through a fundraising event next summer. I'm in my early 20's and very active. I would like raise money doing something which is unique and captures the imagination of potential contributors/ sponsors.

There is a timeframe of 6 months (full time) to train/ carry this out; my budget will allow me to travel to multiple locations if desired.

Running, cycling and swimming are my forte but I'm up for anything exciting.

I will answer any questions,

Best wishes

  1. ive always had this idea of getting jerseys from athletes that have already been worn by them and auctioning them off.. i think that many sports fanatics would be willing to pay big money to buy these products,,, and afterwards u can give the money u collect to the organization of ur choice.. the tough part for this is to talk to the people in charge of the sports teams and get them into letting u have the jerseys.. but i think if they know its for fundraising then they wont mind.. because most of the jerseys are just thrown away or something.

  2. If you are looking for a solo event or series of events and your skills are strong enough you could have a cross country ironman or triathelon exhibition.  IRONMAN CANCER CHALENGE  or similar name.  This could possibly include finding local high schools or colleges to come up with people to compete with you.     You could also do clinics (instructional programs or competitions in different locations) To add publicity value have the local chapeter of the Cancer Society provide judges who are eitehr cancer survivors and have at least some children fighting cancer or cancer survivors in the audience in each place.

If your skills are good but not at that level do a bike marathon.

Get at least one media sponsor even if the sponsorship is simply agreeing to post reports of your trip and events.   That will help greatly to get other sponsors.

Go to www.sponsorwise.com and find sports equipment companies and medical related companies and ask them to be event sponsors....donating $$$ to have banners at the event,to do a table to gove away Tshirts, to provide your official running shoes, sports water bottles etc.   They mostly like events that let them do banners or have stuff handed out with their name on it but they have sinificant $$$ to spend on these types of things.  This site lets you match up your event with sponsorship programs. Most want at least 6 mo lead time.
