  1. those were all good points but my most valuble advice would be

sit back and bend your knees

don't take things to serously for a while be able to laugh and have fun

everyone falls just get up and keep going

    *HAVE FUN*

  2. Under no circumstances go on the hill without lessons.

  3. 1. Lessons

    2. Make sure none of your gear is cotton. If it's outerwear it should be water resistant.  Wearing t-shirts and sweaters made out of cotton means that when you sweat, and you will sweat regardless of how cold it is, it will cling to your body and make you miserable.  Use moisture wicking base layers and the same for additional layers.  Keep the layers light.

    3. I suggest your jacket be a uninsulated shell and refer to number 2 for layering to keep you warm.  On really warm days a light shell and simple base layer is all you need.

    4. Make sure that you are comfortable in your boots.  They should be snug, not too tight, not too loose.

    5. Sunscreen.  High altitude and clear skies = sunburn.  Use a high SPF the altitude results in increased UV.

    6. Drink plenty of fluids.  It will help with altitude sickness and again even on a cold day you are using more liquids than you think you are.

    7. Gloves should be as water resistant as you get.  Under no circumstances should ski using a fabric glove unless you are good enough to know that you will not get them wet.

    8. Have a blast and be prepared for a very addictive and expensive pastime

  4. This is very simple...wear a helmet!

  5. get some lessons

  6. Take a series of lessons, be sure you have a good time.  Your boots must be TIGHT around your foot and ankle, you should not move inside the boot. This is the secret to good control of your skiis. Rub some canning wax on the base of your skiis so they will slide easily.

  7. Don't throw away those used porcupine quills. They make excellent toothpicks.

  8. Brake a leg. It's supposed be good luck to say it.

  9. make sure you wear proper ski googles - especially on sunny days

I didn't wear mine for a few hours and got snow blindness (very irritated dry eyes that take a few days to heal)

The high light reflection from the snow can cook the outside layer of ur eyes

  10. Take a lesson

Sunblock - you will get sunburned especially in the spring

    Chapstick

and OH YEAH bring a flask filled with peppermint schnappes

Great with hot chocolate or beer, you'll save some money

Stuff a couple of granola bars in your coat and maybe a sandwich, you'll have more money for BEER that way

    HAVE A GREAT TIME

  11. Yeah, have fun. Oh and make sure you are going with some experienced, who has the patience to teach you or take a lesson.

  12. Lessons!

If you cant stop or turn... you've got a problem!

  13. RELAX....that is the best advice I can give anyone who is a "never-ever".

Goggles, wax, lessons, etc. are all important, but you stretching before you ski (and after) and remaining relaxed on the slope will help you immensely.

When you are tense, it is harder to control your muscles and if you fall, you are more likely to pull a muscle or hurt yourself.

....but get a lesson as well. That's important too.

  14. "Skiing is about control . . . not for one second is it about ski.  As you gain ability in control, you will find yourself gaining in speed.  If you gain in speed first, you will very quickly realize that you have no control."

My first time down I went down the piste with no control, no ability to really turn or stop.  I wipedout . . . hard.  Take your time, learn how to turn, stop, carve, bleed off speed, and then you'll have a great time.

  15. Those are good ideas, but they're far from the most important.

This is what you need to know: If worst comes to worst, and your way out of control and are going to hit a tree, other rider, or go into a rock, throw yourself on your back and stop.

Falling isnt the most fun thing to do, but its a h**l of a lot better than hitting a tree.  It might hurt a bit, but if you fall on your back and keep your skis out in front of you, the worst your gonna git is the equivalent of maybe a kick in the butt or so.

  16. Stay in control.  Don't go too fast and don't push your abilities.

Wear waterproof clothing, a helmet and goggles,

Take a lesson, it's the best thing you can do as a beginner.

Remember everyone falls at first & have fun!

  17. Be sure you have health insurance. Good Luck!
