Have you had a successful yard sale?

I want to do some cleaning up around my house and figure why not make a few bucks at it..plus I think it would be fun. I've never had a yard sale, any tips on making it successful?

Sell the good stuff on Craigslist.  You get a lot more eyeballs there, which means you can command a higher price.

Since Craigslist became popular, I have not had a successful yard sale.

Craigslist is good if you only have a few items.

Otherwise, you need a good hook...something to draw people to stop and check things out. antique furniture, large TV, riding lawnmower.

These items should be at the end of the driveway, where they are easily seen as people come down the street.

You want to keep these items as long as possible because they bring in the crowd. You can mark them sold and have the people come pick them up at the end of the sale, or mark these items as "Best offer" and have people write a bid, thier name and phone number. Then at the end of the sale, call the highest bidder and let them know they can come and pick it up. Trust me, the good stuff will get people to stop. Once they are there, they need to take a look around.

If you leave on a busy street and things slow down (not to many people stopping by), call a couple of friends to stop over and park their cars in front of your house. Traffic will bring in more traffic.

Another way of making things easy on you, and rather fun is to have a table of stuff that is not marked, and sell it at what ever price the buyer wants to pay.

maake everything look pretty and clean it up and if you want good money put the good things that you dont want in front and the bad things in back .dont price it too expensive or else they wont buy it say somethign you bought for 2:00 bucks tell them that it was ten dollars and price it five but it has to look more than 2:00 bucks.trust me i made 300 dollars off of one garage sale and wait one more thing even if they offer a little less take it becayse they might be the only ones who want that.ohh and another time i made 250 dollars
