Is there a percentage fee for your starting price, is there a bigger percentage fee if the offering price gets bigger than you expected?

There are two fees charged when you list an item. One is the "Insertion fee" and the other is the other is the "Final Value Fee."

The insertion fee is charged right away when your item successfully lists on the site. It's like a "rental" for the "space" your item will be occupying on the site. This one is usually non-refundable. The Insertion fee is a percentage of your Starting Price or Reserve Price.

The second fee is the Final Value Fee which is charged only when your listing ends with a winning bidder. This fee is refundable if you and your buyer ends up canceling the transaction, your buyer ends up not paying for your item,  or if your buyer becomes unregistered.

besides the listing fees + selling % fee there is also an account maintenance charge of about 7 dollars. they have always charged me this money even when i haven't sold or bought anything in the past 11 months.

I don't know why they do this, they just get it off my credit card every time I bid on something, even when I don't buy.

to me,   they are crooks

When you list an item on eBay there is a listing fee. If you have a starting price of less than one dollar the listing fee is at its lowest. If and when the item is sold the is a further fee which is a percentage of the price at which the item sold. All this is clearly explained on eBay's site which is quite user friendly.
