  1. Amory Lovings is the director of the Rocky Mountain Institute, a futuristic conservation and efficiency think tank in Colorado.

He is the champion of the "technofix", where instead of people having to cut back and do without, that technology can make it possible to live on less energy without giving up our comforts and mobility.

He has some good ideas, but I think much of what he wants to do will not come to pass.  There are too many people in the world, that want too much stuff, to ever be able to build it all.  We don't have the resources.

BTW, technology cannot substitute for resources.  Technology can allow resources to be harnessed, but the resources have to be there in the first place.

  2. Yeah, Harvard and Oxford drop out who lacks an understanding of physics and suggests we use non-existent things like Negawatts to solve our problems instead of investing in infrastructure like nuclear power plants.

He's also been receiving a lot of money from the fossil fuel industry to say that fossil fuels will be the transition technology towards renewables and that nuclear isn't needed (which of course means that fossil fuel power plants would keep getting built since the renewables aren't going to be working well enough to replace fossil fuels).
