Question:

Have you heard of Canadian football? A cheap copycat of the real thing?

Should the NFL allow the Crappy Football League to exist? Surely the CFL is violating copyright law of some kind by copying our sport. I think we should sue the CFL out of existence.

I am tired of seeing so many CFL questions on Yahoo! Answers in the last few days. It is polluting the sports section.

If you want to talk about football, talk about AMERICAN football only.

  1. Sue the CFL?  Copyright law?  Dude, we are Americans; thus we have authority over ONE country!!  I am sick of attitudes like yours giving our nation a bad reputation.  You embarress us all.

    One more thing, although the CFL may not have the quality of players as we do, it has been around a h**l of a lot longer.  If you would have looked, this is the 95th Grey Cup.

    Ignorance is bliss my friend.  Grow up.......

  2. Sask 23  Winnipeg 19  Final

  3. If you did any research you would discover that the CFL has been around alot longer than the NFL has.  Today they're having their 95th playing of the Grey Cup which is the equivalent of our Super Bowl.  You should sit down and actually watch some of the CFL action because it's alot of fun to watch.  However I have a feeling that you dont have enough going on upstairs to be that openminded.

  4. Proof positive that the US is overstocked on stupid people.  It's no wonder one of them made it to president.

    (And I'm not saying you all are stupid.  But you have to agree you have more than your fair share down there.)

  5. Can someone explain what this person is trying to say?

    When I  tried to read the question/comments, all I could read was blah blah blah.

    Don't like the CFL section???  Here's a tip: Don't read it.

  6. You have got it backwards Sweetie!!!  The CFL existed before the nfl.   You better be careful when you make statements before you do your research.   Just as I feel the CFL has a right to exist, I also feel the nfl has the same right although I do not watch nfl football because I generally find it boring!!!!

  7. The CFL Grey Cup is older than the NFL SupperBowl, putzmeier.  So who is copying who?

    If you could ever learn to read, perhaps you could find your way to the American football section.  And don't let the door bang your butt on your way out, we like to keep it clean.

  8. nothing wrong with the CFL, its a different animal....i dont watch and keep up with it, but its not like they are taking folks from the nfl, in fact the nfl gets a few folks from there

  9. You must be one of those self centred american morons who swig beer while watching the boring nfl. I have actually sat though a cfl game with an nfl game i'd be lucky to still be awake 5 minutes in.

  10. Just so you know The CFL has been around longer.

    CFL = 1882,

    NFL = 1920

    get your facts straight,

    maybe we should sue the NFL.

  11. Grey Cup vs. Super Bowl:  95 years vs. about 40 years

  12. People still follow the "No Fun League" and the Super Bore?

  13. If you don't recognize Canadian football, then why are you in the Football (Canadian) section?

    Both versions of the game can be traced back to origins in rugby.  Both took different paths to being where they are now.  The only difference between the two is that the National Football League (the major league for American football) has way more money than the Canadian Football League (the major league for Canadian football).

    Oh, and just to let you know, the reason why these answers are popping up more often now is because of the Grey Cup, the championship for Canadian football that dates back to 1909, the oldest in professional football.

    Jamie: Let me clarify some things:

    1. The Grey Cup may be the older trophy but the NFL is the older league.  The NFL is older than the CFL by about 38 years.  The NFL started back in 1920.  The CFL started in 1958.

    2. The NFL never played a Super Bowl, or even used the term, until around 1967 during the time that the most recent American Football League (known as the AFL) was challenging the NFL for American football dominance (by way of the AFL-NFL World Championship Game).  That's why there have been only 41 Super Bowls in 87 years of league history.

    vookey: The Canadian Football Rugby Union (CFRU) was established in 1882, not the CFL.  That was done officially in 1958.  You should really get your facts straight before you attack other people for possibly having factual errors.
