Not exactly how you have described, but if a ghost is attached to an individual and that person moves to another town for example, they will follow.

In one haunting on the show "Ghost Hunters" (on the SciFi Channel), the team found a black mass (shadow figure) on some video in a house in Seattle, and an EVP that appeared to answer the question "what's your name" with the nickname Chestnut--the sister of one of the house's residents, and the mother of another resident. Chestnut never lived in that house, and both lived and died many miles away, and actually just before the teenage girl had moved into the house. Chestnut appeared to be connected to her daughter. It should be noted that like many poltergeist cases, a teenage female is in the home and the house itself is built in an area that has a high level of limestone and quartz content.

Therefore, the answer I can give is yes: it's possible, as the spirits of intelligent hauntings have been shown to have basic freedom of movement throughout a building and are typically not bound to a single piece of property.

A spirit is not always bound to the place it departed from. It only stays because it's scared to move on. Stays at a familiar place. Some become quite adventurous and wander further afield. If they have a bond with someone, they may follow that person to another location. Eventually, when they realise it's no big deal, they will 'Go Home'

Just because a person is seen as an apparition,does not necessarily mean they are earthbound.If they are truely earthbound,they usually stay around one place,or may attach themselves to a person and follow them.

   A spirit,can go wherever they please. Even spirits who have successfully crossed over, can come back to visit. I have been visited by my sister in law who died 500 miles away.Space is no obstacle in spirit. I have no idea how they find us ,but I know it happens.
