  1. But can imagine local recycling without these problems:

       1.  No spam - your email address is never revealed without your permission

       2. "TAKEN" messages are not posted to the group but are automatically sent to people who had expressed an interest in the item.

       3. Only current ads are shown.

       4. Maps clearly show your neighborhood

       5. Very easy to include a picture with your message.

       6. Easily manage all your ads and replies to them in one centralized place

       7. All messages are tagged with the appropriate area.

       8. RSS feeds

       9. No harassment from other users.

      10. Easily identify people who take but don't give.

      11. Easily identify people who don't pickup the items they've claimed.

      12. Easy to find your area - search by ZIP or area name.

      13. Browse ads without registration.

      14. Post messages in all areas with one registration.

      15. Messages appear in the correct areas - no need to cross-post to overlapping groups.

If you can, then you would prefer http://free.LocalDataPlace.com over freecycle and yahoo groups.

    Take care!

  2. I love Freecycle!

It has been a great decluttering resource for me. For the last two years I've been shoveling out what my packrat ex-husband left behind. Someone actually *wanted* 5 boxes of 20 year old computer magazines!

I've also used it to get recycled craft supplies for my Girl Scouts. Yarn, Altoid tins, coffee cans, it has been great! I've also gotten a few things for my family, like clothes and kitchen equipment, but for me moving stuff *out* of the house was the biggest thrill.

  3. The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 4,351 groups with 5,048,000 members across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer (them's good people). Membership is free

Yes you can find your local group here:

    http://freecycle.org/

  4. yes but not sure how to get in touch with site - what is it called?

  5. Freecycle is truly amazing.  Yeah, there are rules, but they're in place for a reason.  No harassment, lol... would you want to be harassed?  I used that one as an exmaple...just think about it though.... Harassment isn't allowed.  That's sort of a nice thing, right?  Freecycle is great and you work with real people... you KNOW where your donation is going.  You can see the real smiles on their face!!

Alot of what that guy is saying is garbage... He's been pushing his website all over this Yahoo Answers place and frankly, it's getting annoying.
