Have you heard of this procedure being done before?

I have a newer 18'x36' in-ground pool that is almost 2 years old. We developed a leak in the skimmer-to-pump line this year. This was confirmed by the pool company that installed the pool by doing a pressure test on the line. They made an attempt to dig up around the pump in hopes the leak was near that section (no concrete there) but it was not. This leaves the leak in the line under the pool concrete desk or at the skimmer itself (in concrete).

Their solution now is to run a 3/4" line within the 1.5" existing skimmer line and somehow (they state they have a way) reseal the new line into the skimmer connection and pump connection.

I am concerned that this is half the diameter of the old line and I will loss some suction. There is a main drain at the bottom of the pool as well.

Also, it is difficult to swallow that we paid for a new pool less then 2 years ago and already we are dealing with this secondary line fix.

  1. No sorry.

  2. It is a normal procedure. Absolutely no suction will be lost. It is actually a little better too have it smaller so the line doesn't strech.

  3. This is a great quick fix to a tough problem and in addition the smaller diameter will actually increase suction to the pump. Short of demolition of the deck. I would go with it. Can't hurt the pocketbook too much. Good Luck.

  4. It sounds reasonable, but get a second opinion and do not say anything about the first and see if they come up with the same a different solution.  A third opinion may be necessary.  good luck.

  5. I think you'll be ok with their fix.  Its frustrating to think we are dealing with mental Pygmies.  Its a good thing they have that fix, and I cross my fingers for you that the fix will take.
