Is this ok or is it is govmt.total control?

how many of you knew that there was a device that the govt have to disperse unruly youths up to the age of 25 yrs. This device sends a high pitched scream into their ears.It is non discremenant so if there is a crowd of youths outside a shop or a mcdonalds the manager can press a button and every one in the vicinity under that age will hear a loud screeching noise in their ears.how would you feel if you were just going for a burger and this affected you?

What happens if you are an innocent person taking your ,say 5 year old for a mcdonalds ,and they are subjected to this?

this is going on in wales and will spread to the rest of the country. Is this the govmts.way of total control or am i wrong .what are your views.

  1. Where can I buy one ?

Next time my eldest is home and brings all his mates around on a Saturday night (after the pub closes) and they are having a session (guitars, singing etc) at three in the morning I would like to be able to press a button and send them home !!.

  2. I'm aware of it. It's called a mosquito and the government's minister for children is reviewing it and will probably start campaigning to ban it as it's not a gevernment device.

The noise doesn't hurt, it's just a bit uncomfortable. I think the government are in a difficult situation. Living in Warrington and really feeling the effecr of the Gary Newlove murder, something needs to be done. Whether this is the answer, I'm not convinced for two reasons really. First that it tars all of these youngsters with the same brush and that's not fair. I know a lot of really decent teenagers. Secondly, I would worry that they'll then be driven to isolated areas to hang about. A young boy died last night in a Manchester canal or river (Sorry can't remember all the details) at just before midnight. If the mosquito drives them out of built up areas whilst they are drunk, then anything can happen.

I don't know what the solution is but I really think that the government, the police, schools and the general public need to work together to make these 'young adults' take responibility for themselves and their actions.

Sorry, I went on a bit then... :)

  3. This has been a device that has been marketed for some time but has recently gained more publicity due to people disagreeing with it's use. It is not used by the government but by shop owners/shopping centers.

I am under 25 and can hear the sound but have never actually heard it used in public.

I believe that shopkeepers turn it on if they feel there are a group of youths that look menacing/threatening - they turn it on to move them on and then they will turn it off. They also try to make sure that it does not affect other customers or their children as they would lose business if it did.

  4. I heard about this on Rush Limbaugh yesterday. Apparently it is being used in Brittan to keep teens from hanging around and causing trouble. It isn't being used in the US.

As  for your question about the 5 yr old. Yes I think it would effect them as well as it seems it is a pitch that only young ears have a tendency to be able to hear. It isn't loud or harmful, just annoying. The gov. isn't the one doing this either, it is the shop owners. So is it a case of big brother? I don't think so.

  5. What? How can only under 25s hear it?!

Thanks. Wow - I never knew that. Had not heard of that news story. There is definitely a need to sort out rowdy teenagers but I agree that this method is wrong if it is going to subject other young people/children to it too.

  6. This device will only be operated in areas that attract groups of youth who congregate usually on street corners annoying the local neighbourhood with shouting and swearing usually into the early hours on the morning.

  7. Id say that those talking cameras they got in the UK now are more big brother than some shop keeps noise machine.

  8. While I have sympathy, groups of teenagers hanging around shops, etc are frightening and a nuisance.  These kids don't know how to behave.  I live opposite a park, and I have no problem with kids gathering there in the evening.  But I do have a problem with the swearing, the sexual innuendoes and plain disgusting language that rips through the peace.  I like kids, but when they'e in groups and gangs, they're in packs.  And they can behave like pack animals.

As far as I am concerned, while there are no policemen on the corner dispersing these kids, then I'd be happy to use one of these gadgets.

Few places would risk getting rid of their potential customers.  And these gangs of kids do affect business.

I think it should only be used when and where there is a problem.  They aren't on all the time, but certainly there is a place for it in our society.  We don't need gangs of kids on the streets at all hours of the day and night.

But saying that, I have long campaigned for proper places for kids to gather.  Bring back park keepers, bus conductors, police on the beat.  And hold people responsible for their children's behaviour.

  9. If it affects their profits they will not switch it on. And the unruly youths will probably be tempted to smash a window for them to turn it off, instead of dispersing.

  10. Gimmicks like this are a sign of failure, a sign that we have let things get too far, and have to resort to measures similar to those that might be employed to remove pigeons from Trafalgar square.

A lack of good parenting, (absent fathers and single parents) a lack of discipline within our schools system, paper bound policing, a sign that the Liberals have been/are in charge.

In a way, it de-humanises people. But have they not appreciated, they will have to move on, SOMEWHERE.

  11. It's not a government device, nor is it used by the government. A private company produces it and private businesses buy it.
