  1. Considering Team Garmin-Chipotle compete on Felt bikes, I'd say they're a pretty good brand, yeah...

Don't limit yourself to Trek, please. For your sake.

  2. All three brands are very good options to Trek.  It's really hard to say this brand is absolutely better than this other one.  Try them for size and see how they feel.

  3. All those brands you mention are great bikes.     They all make a wide range of bikes from entry level to top-end.    Trek's can be overpriced and I tend to shy away from them myself, but I have owned a Trek and it was and still is a great bike.   The main thing is to test ride the bikes in your budget and pick the one you like best....and of course you have to have one that looks cool..............

  4. Amanda,

Those are all reputable brands.  Marin was one of the very first mountain bike manufacturers.  Jamis began building beach cruisers in the 70's and moved into mountain bikes and road bikes in the 80's.   Felt is newer, but has a good reputation.

I like Treks, and used to own a store that sold them, but there is no reason to pay more for the Trek name.  Advertising is expensive, you know, and they have to recover it some way.

A dirty little secret in the bicycle industry is that, aside from their top-of-the-line bikes, almost all brands are made by a very few producers in Asia, and the label on the frame doesn't mean much.

I've put a link below to an article on this written by an industry insider.

You should pay more attention to the make of the components, and whether they are lower-line or higher-line.  Shimano, for example, makes components that range from cheap discount store grade to the top-of-the-line professional Dura Ace line.

So, I recommend that you be careful about components and you buy the best value.  Since you sound like a beginner it's probably best that you buy through a local shop where you can get service and advice.

    Good luck, and happy riding.

    Ben

  5. jamison are pretty good but as far as the rest of them no have not heard of them

  6. Felt is a great bike. I use to have a Felt F55. A lot of my club riders also ride felt. If you are looking for a bike that has a top notch aluminum frame (7005 grade) , you can't go wrong with felt. I've heard of Marin bikes; a colleague of mine use to own one for commuting around the city. I found that they tend to be heavier then other bikes within the same price range, but, they are built like tanks! so pretty much indestructible.

Trek has been around for a while now...personally, trek has never really grown on me for road bikes. I feel that there are a many number of companies that offer "better" frames for around the same price range....but that's a personal preference of course.

    Regards,

    A.

  7. All are good brands, especially Felt and Jamis.

  8. yes, trek is very expensive for the price you pay, they are like the jaguars of bike, not very good and expensive. the bikes you mention, are good bikes; if i will rate them in quality order i would say felt, jamis and marin

i think the best deal on bikes are in giants and fujis, they always have the best components for the price you pay.
